Security Engineering Manager Jobs in Rhode Island: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a security engineering manager in Rhode Island?
Most security engineering managers in Rhode Island begin with a bachelor's degree in computer science, information security, or engineering, followed by several years in hands-on security roles such as analyst or architect. Rhode Island has no state-issued license specific to this role, so employers weigh industry credentials heavily: CISSP and CISM are the most commonly required. Defense contractors in the state additionally expect candidates to hold or qualify for a federal security clearance.
How much do security engineering managers make in Rhode Island?
Security engineering managers in Rhode Island earn a median of about $102,210 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $50,700 for the lowest 10% to over $158,670 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire security engineering managers in Rhode Island?
Companies currently hiring security engineering managers in Rhode Island include CVS Health, FM, and Citizens, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Rhode Island's defense, healthcare, and financial services sectors drive consistent openings for this role across the state.
Which Rhode Island cities have the most security engineering manager jobs?
Providence, Rhode Island, and Johnston have the most security engineering manager openings in Rhode Island. Providence generates the bulk of demand as the state's primary corporate and healthcare hub, while surrounding communities like Cranston and Warwick benefit from proximity to defense contractors and insurance firms that maintain substantial security teams in the greater Providence metro area.
Are there remote security engineering manager jobs in Rhode Island?
Yes, and more than many technical leadership roles. About 57% of security engineering manager openings tied to Rhode Island are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves policy, architecture review, and cross-team coordination rather than on-site hardware. Roles tied to classified defense programs typically require on-site presence and are far less likely to be fully remote.
How can I get hired as a security engineering manager in Rhode Island with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is moving into management from a senior security engineer or analyst role within the same organization. Large Rhode Island employers like CVS Health and Raytheon Technologies promote from within and offer internal rotational programs that build managerial exposure. Earning a CISSP or earning a project lead designation on a major security initiative can accelerate that transition. Candidates who lack direct management experience should target team lead or deputy roles first, then step up once they have documented program ownership.
Where can I find and apply to security engineering manager jobs in Rhode Island?
You can find and apply to security engineering manager jobs in Rhode Island on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings in the state. Search the listings, find roles that match your background and target industry, and apply directly to the ones that fit your experience level and preferred work arrangement.
