Security Engineering Manager Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a security engineering manager in New York?
The path to a security engineering manager role in New York typically starts with a bachelor's degree in computer science, cybersecurity, or information systems, followed by several years as a security engineer or analyst. New York does not require a state-issued license for this role, but employers strongly favor candidates holding CISSP or CISM certifications. Gaining experience in New York's regulated industries, particularly finance or healthcare, accelerates the move into management.
How much do security engineering managers make in New York?
Security engineering managers in New York earn a median of about $116,990 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $59,740 for the lowest 10% to over $203,040 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire security engineering managers in New York?
Employers hiring security engineering managers in New York right now include Boston Consulting, DoubleVerify, and Anthropic, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York City's concentration of major financial institutions, global technology firms, and large healthcare networks makes the state one of the deepest markets in the country for this role.
Which New York cities have the most security engineering manager jobs?
New York, New York City, and Boston lead New York for security engineering manager openings. New York City drives the bulk of demand through its dense concentration of global banks, insurance carriers, and technology companies, while Albany and Buffalo generate openings from state government agencies, regional healthcare systems, and growing technology employers that anchor their security teams outside the metro.
Are there remote security engineering manager jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most technical roles, since security engineering management involves substantial oversight, policy work, and cross-team coordination that can be done remotely. About 47% of security engineering manager openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the collaborative but largely desk-based nature of the work. Hands-on incident response and on-site infrastructure roles are the exceptions most likely to require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a security engineering manager in New York with little or no experience?

Financial institutions like JPMorgan Chase and Citigroup, along with major health systems such as NewYork-Presbyterian, regularly promote internally and hire associate managers with strong technical backgrounds. Earning a CISSP or CISM certification and building experience in a regulated New York industry gives candidates without prior management titles a concrete edge.
