Security Researcher Jobs in Minneapolis: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a security researcher job in Minneapolis?
Focus your search on Minneapolis's financial services corridor Downtown, the healthcare technology firms clustered around Midtown and near the medical district, and the defense and government contractors operating in the broader metro. Candidates with hands-on penetration testing experience, relevant certifications like OSCP or CISSP, and familiarity with regulated-industry compliance frameworks stand out most with local employers. Networking through Minneapolis-area security meetups and ISACA's Twin Cities chapter also opens doors that cold applications often don't.
Which companies hire security researchers in Minneapolis?
Employers hiring security researchers in Minneapolis right now include NetSPI, Target, and Allina Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Minneapolis hiring tends to be driven by large financial institutions, regional health systems, and mid-size technology firms, many of which maintain in-house security research teams rather than relying solely on outside vendors.
Are there remote security researcher jobs in Minneapolis?
Yes, though availability varies by role type: analytical and threat-intelligence-focused positions go remote far more often than hands-on lab, red-team, or hardware-focused roles. About 62% of security researcher openings tied to Minneapolis are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting demand from employers open to distributed talent. Within Minneapolis, threat modeling, vulnerability analysis, and policy-focused research positions are the most commonly offered in remote or hybrid arrangements.
How can I get a security researcher job in Minneapolis with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Minneapolis is targeting junior security analyst or associate threat intelligence roles at the city's regional banks, health systems, and managed security service providers, which frequently hire candidates building toward a research track. Completing a capture-the-flag portfolio, earning an entry-level certification like CompTIA Security+, and contributing to open-source vulnerability research gives local hiring managers concrete evidence of capability. Minneapolis-area community college cybersecurity programs and University of Minnesota coursework also carry weight with employers already familiar with those pipelines.
Which industries hire the most security researchers in Minneapolis?
Minneapolis security researcher roles concentrate in Retail, Consulting & Professional Services, and Technology & Software, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Minneapolis's standing as a major hub for financial services headquartered operations and one of the country's largest medical device and health technology ecosystems creates sustained, year-round demand for security researchers with regulated-industry expertise.
