Security Software Engineer Jobs in San Jose: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a security software engineer job in San Jose?
Focus on San Jose's densest hiring corridors: North San Jose's tech campuses and the Downtown core attract the most openings, primarily from cloud infrastructure, semiconductor, and enterprise software companies. Hands-on experience with application security, penetration testing, or secure software development lifecycle practices gives candidates a measurable edge here. Certifications like CISSP, CEH, or OSCP are frequently cited in local postings and help your application stand out in a competitive field.
Which companies hire security software engineers in San Jose?
Employers hiring security software engineers in San Jose right now include ByteDance, TikTok, and AMD, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. San Jose's employer base skews toward established semiconductor giants, cloud platform companies, and mid-size enterprise software firms, all of which maintain dedicated security engineering teams.
Are there remote security software engineer jobs in San Jose?
Yes, though with limits: security software engineering roles that involve code review, threat modeling, or vulnerability research are more remote-friendly, while positions requiring lab access, hardware security work, or on-site compliance reviews tend to be in-person. About 0% of security software engineer openings tied to San Jose are remote or hybrid as of July 2026. Cloud security and application security roles are the most consistently remote among San Jose postings.
How can I get a security software engineer job in San Jose with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in San Jose is through associate security engineer or software engineer roles at mid-size enterprise software and SaaS companies, which hire junior talent more consistently than the large semiconductor firms. Building a portfolio of capture-the-flag competition results, open-source security tool contributions, or a documented home lab gives local hiring managers something concrete to evaluate. Community college cybersecurity programs and university partnerships in the South Bay also feed directly into local entry-level pipelines.
Which industries hire the most security software engineers in San Jose?
The sectors hiring the most security software engineers in San Jose are Technology & Software, Electronics & Hardware, and Artificial Intelligence, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. San Jose's role as a hub for semiconductor design, cloud infrastructure, and enterprise software means security engineering is embedded across product, platform, and compliance functions rather than concentrated in any single vertical.
