ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As Senior Director of Global Planning/Tax Strategy at Ciena, this role shapes the company’s global tax vision and aligns tax strategy with enterprise growth and value creation. This position influences executive decision-making across a complex multinational environment and advances tax as a strategic business partner. The role contributes to long-term scalability, operational efficiency, and shareholder outcomes.
How you will make an impact:
- Lead development and execution of global tax strategy aligned with long-term business objectives and shareholder value
- Advise executive leadership on mergers and acquisitions, capital allocation, legal entity optimization, financing structures, and international expansion
- Design and implement tax-efficient global operating and legal entity structures to enable growth and scalability
- Partner cross-functionally with finance, legal, treasury, corporate development, and business leaders to evaluate strategic initiatives
- Drive strategic tax planning across domestic and international jurisdictions while balancing risk and sustainability
- Monitor global legislative and regulatory developments and define proactive response strategies
- Lead tax risk management, governance, and controversy strategy at the enterprise level
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Taxation, Accounting, or Finance required
- Certifications: CPA designation or State Bar admission required
- Experience: 15+ years of progressive international tax experience within a multinational corporation, Big Four firm, or complex global environment
- Experience leading strategic tax planning, international structuring, and transaction advisory initiatives in multinational organizations
- Demonstrated application of advising senior leadership on business expansion, mergers and acquisitions, financing structures, and global operational planning
- Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and drive strategic initiatives in a global environment
- Experience building and developing tax teams focused on collaboration, innovation, and business partnership
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Master of Science in Taxation (MST), JD, or LLM in Taxation
- Application of global tax policy trends, international tax reform, and cross-border tax considerations
COMPENSATION
- Pay Range: Range US: 207,900.00 - 290,100.00
Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.
Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
