Senior Network Security Engineer Jobs in Hawaii: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior network security engineer in Hawaii?
Hawaii does not issue a state-specific license for network security engineers, so the path runs through education, federal certifications, and clearance eligibility. Most employers in Hawaii, particularly defense contractors and federal agencies, expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, cybersecurity, or a related field, paired with certifications such as CISSP or CompTIA Security+. Gaining DoD security clearance early is a significant advantage given Hawaii's military-heavy hiring market.
How much do senior network security engineers make in Hawaii?
Senior network security engineers in Hawaii earn a median of about $126,250 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $76,390 for the lowest 10% to over $172,780 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior network security engineers in Hawaii?
Companies currently hiring senior network security engineers in Hawaii include Leidos, Booz Allen Hamilton, and Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hawaii's defense and federal contractor ecosystem means many openings require or strongly prefer candidates who already hold an active security clearance.
Which Hawaii cities have the most senior network security engineer jobs?
Honolulu, Ford Island, and Camp Smith account for the largest share of senior network security engineer openings in Hawaii. Honolulu dominates due to its concentration of federal agencies, military commands, and corporate headquarters, while other areas on Oahu's central plain and the neighbor islands see activity driven by defense contractor field offices and expanding healthcare systems.
Are there remote senior network security engineer jobs in Hawaii?
Yes, and more than most technical fields. About 0% of senior network security engineer openings tied to Hawaii are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves monitoring, analysis, and policy rather than on-site hardware. Roles involving classified networks or hands-on infrastructure, however, almost always require an on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a senior network security engineer in Hawaii with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a junior network or security analyst role with a defense contractor or state agency in Honolulu and building toward seniority from there. Employers like Booz Allen Hamilton and Leidos run associate and entry-level programs on Oahu that accept candidates who hold a CompTIA Security+ certification and qualify for a security clearance investigation. Lateral moves from network administration, systems engineering, or IT operations are common, and earning a CISSP or CEH while working in those adjacent roles signals readiness for a senior track.
Where can I find and apply to senior network security engineer jobs in Hawaii?
You can find and apply to senior network security engineer jobs in Hawaii on Migrate Mate, which lists current Hawaii openings updated regularly. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level, clearance status, and preferred location across the islands, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
