Senior Staff Data Scientist Jobs in Kentucky: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior staff data scientist in Kentucky?
Most senior staff data scientists in Kentucky hold at least a master's degree in statistics, computer science, mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline, though employers at the staff and senior staff level increasingly value a PhD for research-intensive roles. There is no state-issued license or registration specific to data science in Kentucky. Employers in the state's dominant sectors, healthcare and logistics, prioritize candidates who can show progressive leadership experience, ownership of production machine learning systems, and cross-functional project delivery.
How much do senior staff data scientists make in Kentucky?
Senior staff data scientists in Kentucky earn a median of about $91,760 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $61,990 for the lowest 10% to over $156,480 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior staff data scientists in Kentucky?
Companies currently hiring senior staff data scientists in Kentucky include Baptist Health System KY & IN, Norton Healthcare, and University of Kentucky, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Kentucky's concentration of large healthcare insurers, retail headquarters, and energy companies means senior staff roles here tend to emphasize enterprise-scale modeling and business intelligence over pure research.
Which Kentucky cities have the most senior staff data scientist jobs?
Louisville, Lexington, and Frankfort account for the largest share of senior staff data scientist openings in Kentucky. Louisville dominates due to the headquarters presence of major healthcare and retail employers, while Lexington's university medical center and growing tech sector drive consistent demand, and Covington benefits from proximity to the Cincinnati metro and its cross-border financial services and logistics firms.
Are there remote senior staff data scientist jobs in Kentucky?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 3% of senior staff data scientist openings tied to Kentucky are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the fundamentally desk-based and digital nature of the work. Modeling, pipeline development, and stakeholder reporting all transfer readily to remote arrangements, though roles requiring close collaboration with on-site engineering or clinical teams are more likely to require at least a hybrid schedule.
How can I get hired as a senior staff data scientist in Kentucky with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is building toward the role through an adjacent analytical position first. In Kentucky, entry points include data analyst and machine learning engineer roles at large Louisville-area employers such as Humana or Kindred Healthcare, where structured rotation programs and mentorship tracks exist for early-career candidates. Completing a graduate certificate or master's program at the University of Kentucky or University of Louisville, contributing to open-source projects, and building a portfolio of end-to-end machine learning projects are the credentials that move candidates into consideration for staff-track roles.
Where can I find and apply to senior staff data scientist jobs in Kentucky?
You can find and apply to senior staff data scientist jobs in Kentucky on Migrate Mate, which lists current Kentucky openings. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your background and preferences, and apply directly.
