Service Technician Jobs in Grand Rapids: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a service technician job in Grand Rapids?
The strongest path in Grand Rapids is targeting the city's manufacturing and medical equipment sectors, where hands-on diagnostic and repair skills are in constant demand. Employers along the West Side industrial corridor and in the Wyoming-Kentwood area hire regularly, and candidates with certifications in HVAC, electrical systems, or medical device maintenance stand out. Applying directly to regional manufacturers and healthcare system vendors tends to move faster than broader searches.
Which companies hire service technicians in Grand Rapids?
Employers hiring service technicians in Grand Rapids right now include ABB, NCR, and DEX Imaging, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Grand Rapids draws a mix of regional manufacturers, medical device firms, facility services companies, and industrial equipment dealers, all of which maintain ongoing service technician needs.
Are there remote service technician jobs in Grand Rapids?
Yes, though remote opportunities are limited for this role since most service technician work is hands-on and requires an on-site presence. About 13% of service technician openings tied to Grand Rapids are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, mostly covering technical support, remote diagnostics, or dispatch coordination functions rather than field repair work.
How can I get a service technician job in Grand Rapids with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point in Grand Rapids is applying for a helper or junior technician role with one of the city's regional HVAC, plumbing, or light manufacturing service companies, many of which run in-house training programs. The Grand Rapids Community College skilled trades pipeline is well-regarded locally, and employers near the Wyoming-Kentwood industrial zone regularly hire graduates. Showing basic mechanical aptitude and a willingness to work variable field schedules gives entry-level candidates a real edge here.
Which industries hire the most service technicians in Grand Rapids?
Most service technician openings in Grand Rapids sit in Manufacturing, Energy, and Electronics & Hardware, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Grand Rapids' concentration of precision manufacturing firms, medical device companies anchored around the Medical Mile, and a large commercial facilities sector means steady, year-round demand for skilled service technicians across those areas.
