Entry Level Social Media Specialist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level social media specialist job?
Employers at this level look for a portfolio that shows real results, even if it comes from a class project, internship, or accounts you managed for a student organization. Familiarity with scheduling tools, basic analytics, and at least one major platform gives you a clear edge. Tailoring your application to the specific platforms a company uses shows you've done your homework and separates you from generic applicants.
Which companies hire entry level social media specialists?
Companies hiring entry level social media specialists right now include Whatnot, Topaz Labs, and Ignite Social Media, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a wide mix of employers, including consumer brands, agencies managing multiple client accounts, media companies, and nonprofits that need consistent content output but don't require deep experience.
Are there remote entry level social media specialist jobs?
Yes, remote and hybrid roles are common at this level. About 41% of entry level social media specialist openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how content creation and community management translate well to distributed teams. Fully on-site roles still exist, often at local businesses or companies that prefer in-person collaboration for content shoots and team brainstorms.
Are these new grad social media specialist jobs?
Yes, many of these postings are explicitly new grad friendly, including roles labeled junior or assistant social media specialist. A new grad posting typically welcomes candidates with zero to two years of experience, accepts internship or volunteer work in place of full-time history, and treats a well-organized portfolio as a qualifying credential. If a listing asks for a degree or equivalent experience, recent graduates with strong project work often qualify.
Which industries hire the most entry level social media specialists?
Entry Level social media specialist roles concentrate in Education, Technology & Software, and Retail, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Those sectors tend to drive hiring at this level because they run high-volume content calendars, need consistent audience engagement across multiple platforms, and often bring in junior talent to support lean marketing teams rather than waiting for candidates with years of experience.
