Social Worker Jobs in Phoenix: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a social worker job in Phoenix?
The strongest entry points in Phoenix are Maricopa County human services, Valley hospital systems, and the dense cluster of nonprofit agencies operating in South Phoenix and Maryvale. Clinical roles with bilingual Spanish skills are in especially high demand given the city's demographics. Candidates who have field placement or internship hours in community mental health or child welfare stand out with local employers.
Which companies hire social workers in Phoenix?
Companies currently hiring social workers in Phoenix include Phoenix Children's, US Department of Veterans Affairs, and Mayo Clinic, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Phoenix's employer mix leans heavily toward large integrated health systems, Maricopa County government agencies, and established nonprofits serving refugee resettlement, foster care, and behavioral health populations.
Are there remote social worker jobs in Phoenix?
Yes, but social worker roles are largely in-person by nature, particularly case management, clinical, and school-based positions. About 11% of social worker openings tied to Phoenix are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those openings tend to be in utilization review, telehealth counseling, and care coordination roles for larger health systems.
How can I get a social worker job in Phoenix with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Phoenix is through Maricopa County's Department of Child Safety or an AmeriCorps placement with a local nonprofit, both of which regularly bring on candidates without extensive post-degree experience. Entry-level case aide and community health worker roles at Valley health systems and refugee resettlement agencies also serve as practical stepping stones, and bilingual Spanish fluency gives early-career candidates a meaningful competitive edge locally.
Which industries hire the most social workers in Phoenix?
The sectors hiring the most social workers in Phoenix are Healthcare & Medical Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Phoenix's rapid population growth and its concentration of federally qualified health centers, county behavioral health contracts, and large nonprofit human services organizations keep demand across these sectors consistently active.
