Social Worker Jobs in Los Angeles: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a social worker job in Los Angeles?
Focus your search on Los Angeles County's sprawling public health and child welfare systems, the dense cluster of community health centers in South LA and East LA, and the large hospital networks in Boyle Heights and Westside neighborhoods. Candidates with bilingual Spanish skills or experience in housing instability and mental health services stand out here. Targeting county contract nonprofits is often the fastest entry point into steady, full-time work.
Which companies hire social workers in Los Angeles?
Employers hiring social workers in Los Angeles right now include UCLA Health, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. The local market is shaped by a mix of large county agencies, federally qualified health centers, and mission-driven nonprofits that serve one of the country's most populous and diverse urban communities.
Are there remote social worker jobs in Los Angeles?
Yes, though remote availability is limited for roles requiring direct client contact, such as case management visits or court-related work. About 15% of social worker openings tied to Los Angeles are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with flexibility most common in care coordination, utilization review, and telehealth-based counseling positions tied to the region's large managed care organizations.
How can I get a social worker job in Los Angeles with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Los Angeles is through a field placement or volunteer role with a county-contracted nonprofit, which frequently converts to paid positions. Employers such as community mental health centers in Watts, Pacoima, and Pico-Union regularly hire entry-level case aides and social service assistants. Bilingual fluency in Spanish, Tagalog, or Korean adds measurable value given the communities these organizations serve across the county.
Which industries hire the most social workers in Los Angeles?
The sectors hiring the most social workers in Los Angeles are Healthcare & Medical Services, Biotechnology & Pharmaceuticals, and Education, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Los Angeles's scale as a county of over ten million people drives outsized demand across public agencies, hospital systems, and the large nonprofit sector that delivers county-contracted social services throughout its many underserved communities.
