Radiologic Tech Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a radiologic tech in California?
You must earn a certificate or degree from an accredited radiologic technology program and then obtain certification from the California Department of Public Health, Radiologic Health Branch, which administers the state's fluoroscopy and radiography certification requirements. Most California employers also expect ARRT certification. The combination of an accredited education, passing the ARRT exam, and holding a valid California state certification is the standard path to working as a radiologic tech in this state.
How much do radiologic teches make in California?
Radiologic teches in California earn a median of about $121,260 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $70,210 for the lowest 10% to over $165,460 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire radiologic techs in California?
Employers hiring radiologic techs in California right now include CommonSpirit Health, Sutter Health, and Dignity Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's dense concentration of large integrated health systems and independent imaging networks means consistent openings across both hospital-based and outpatient settings throughout the state.
Which California cities have the most radiologic tech jobs?
Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco have the most radiologic tech openings in California, driven by the concentration of major academic medical centers, trauma hospitals, and regional health system headquarters in Los Angeles and the Bay Area, while San Diego's large military and research hospital presence adds steady volume across that region as well.
Are there remote radiologic tech jobs in California?
Yes, but they're rare. Radiologic tech work is hands-on by nature, requiring direct patient contact and operation of imaging equipment on site. About 1% of radiologic tech openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions are almost exclusively in teleradiology support, quality assurance, or imaging education rather than direct patient care.
How can I get hired as a radiologic tech in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a new-graduate or limited-experience position at a large California health system, many of which run structured residency or clinical transition programs. Kaiser Permanente and Dignity Health both offer pathways for early-career radiologic techs in California. Holding your California Department of Public Health certification and ARRT credential before applying, even without years of experience, gives you a concrete credential advantage. Lateral moves from imaging aide or patient care technician roles within the same facility also serve as a common entry point.
Where can I find and apply to radiologic tech jobs in California?
