Overview
We are seeking a senior full-stack software engineer to maintain and enhance an AI Analysis and Collaboration Platform that coordinates information requests across external AI agents. The platform collects agent responses through Kafka, performs LLM-assisted analysis, and provides consolidated reports, source evidence, and collaborative review tools.
This developer will take ownership of the existing codebase, resolve defects, deliver enhancements, and improve reliability, security, and maintainability. The role requires someone comfortable tracing behavior across a browser interface, backend services, asynchronous messaging, and persistent data.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and enhance a Java/Spring Boot backend and Angular/TypeScript frontend.
- Develop features for information request management, agent response analysis, reporting, search, scheduling, and collaboration.
- Maintain Kafka integrations, including message contracts, failure handling, retries, and dead-letter processing.
- Develop MongoDB data models, queries, indexes, retention policies, and application-managed relationships.
- Maintain LLM integrations that generate structured analysis, consolidated reports, and streamed chat responses.
- Support a Playwright/Chromium service that captures cited webpages through proxies.
- Maintain authentication, service-account access, and authorization across APIs and live updates.
- Diagnose production issues using logs, metrics, health checks, and message-processing history.
- Extend automated tests and maintain build pipelines, Docker images, deployment configuration, and technical documentation.
- Evaluate architectural changes, including concurrency controls and support for multiple application instances.
Required Experience and Skills
Professional Experience
- Typically 5+ years of professional software development experience, or equivalent demonstrated capability, with substantial Java backend and modern frontend work.
- Experience taking ownership of an established application, including troubleshooting unfamiliar code and making changes without disrupting existing workflows.
- Experience supporting deployed applications and delivering features through review, automated testing, and release processes.
Backend Development
- Strong Java and Spring Boot skills, including Spring MVC, Spring Security, Spring Data, dependency injection, configuration, asynchronous execution, and scheduling.
- Ability to work with the project’s Java 25 and Spring Boot 4.1 baseline.
- Experience designing REST APIs, validating inputs, handling errors consistently, and separating API contracts from domain and persistence models.
- Understanding of concurrency, race conditions, retry behavior, timeouts, and safe recovery from partial failures.
Frontend Development
- Strong TypeScript and Angular experience, with the ability to work in Angular 22.
- Familiarity with standalone components, signals, RxJS, routing, reactive forms, and Angular Material.
- Experience building data-intensive interfaces and handling live or streamed updates.
- Ability to maintain responsive, accessible interfaces and diagnose browser-to-backend integration issues.
Messaging and Data
- Practical Kafka experience, including producers, consumers, consumer groups, offsets, serialization, and delivery semantics.
- Understanding of duplicate and out-of-order messages, idempotent processing, and dead-letter handling.
- Experience with MongoDB schema design, indexing, query performance, and document-level atomicity.
- Ability to preserve consistency when operations span multiple collections without transactions.
Testing and Delivery
- Experience with Java unit and integration testing, frontend testing, and browser automation.
- Familiarity with tools such as JUnit, Mockito, Testcontainers, Vitest, and Playwright, or comparable frameworks.
- Proficiency with Git, Maven, npm, Docker Compose, CI/CD pipelines, Linux, and shell scripting.
- Ability to write clear technical documentation and explain implementation choices and operational tradeoffs.
Preferred Experience
- LLM application development using LangChain4j or similar libraries.
- Structured model outputs, prompt management, provider failures, token budgets, and evaluation of generated results.
- WebSocket/STOMP messaging and streamed HTTP responses.
- Browser automation, proxy configuration, screenshot capture, and content-addressed storage.
- PDF generation, Markdown processing, charting, or geographic visualization.
- ArchUnit, PMD, ESLint, and automated enforcement of architectural conventions.
- GitLab CI, Kafka security and ACLs, and MongoDB administration.
- Experience evolving a single-instance application toward safe horizontal scaling.
What Success Looks Like
The developer can independently trace an information request from submission through Kafka ingestion, agent responses, analysis, and report display; diagnose failures across those stages; and deliver tested enhancements that preserve access controls and existing behavior. They make practical improvements, document their work, and communicate clearly about dependencies, risks, and release readiness.

Software Engineer Jobs in Tampa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a software engineer job in Tampa?
Focus on Tampa's strongest hiring sectors: financial technology firms in Westshore, health technology companies near the USF and Moffitt corridor, and the growing cybersecurity cluster tied to MacDill Air Force Base's defense contractors. Backend, cloud, and full-stack engineers are in highest demand. Tailoring your portfolio to one of these verticals and targeting mid-size Tampa companies gives you a clear edge over generalist applicants.
Which companies hire software engineers in Tampa?
Tampa software engineer roles are posted by JPMorganChase, Humana, and DigitalCM and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Tampa's employer mix leans toward established financial services firms, regional health systems, and defense-adjacent technology contractors rather than early-stage startups.
Are there remote software engineer jobs in Tampa?
Yes, software engineering is one of the more remote-compatible disciplines because the core work is desk-based and deliverable-driven. About 100% of software engineer openings tied to Tampa are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting broad industry norms. Cloud engineering, backend development, and data engineering roles in Tampa's fintech and healthtech sectors tend to offer the most remote flexibility.
How can I get a software engineer job in Tampa with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Tampa is through junior or associate developer roles at mid-size healthtech and fintech companies, which hire more entry-level candidates than large enterprises. Tampa's defense contractors also run structured apprenticeship pipelines for candidates with relevant coursework. Building a public GitHub portfolio, contributing to open-source projects, and attending Tampa Bay Tech meetups helps local hiring managers recognize unfamiliar names on applications.
