Speech Pathologist Jobs in Rhode Island: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a speech pathologist in Rhode Island?
To practice as a speech pathologist in Rhode Island, you must hold an active license issued by the Rhode Island Department of Health's Office of Health Professions Regulation. Licensure requires a master's degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited program, completion of a supervised clinical fellowship, and passing the Praxis Examination in Speech-Language Pathology. ASHA's CCC-SLP certification is widely required by Rhode Island employers and aligns closely with state licensure standards.
How much do speech pathologists make in Rhode Island?
Speech pathologists in Rhode Island earn a median of about $104,000 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $75,270 for the lowest 10% to over $130,830 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire speech pathologists in Rhode Island?
Rhode Island speech pathologist roles are posted by HiredFirst, Pediatric Developmental Services, and Preferred Therapy Solutions and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Rhode Island's hiring is anchored by major integrated health systems and the Providence-area school districts, which together generate a large share of the state's ongoing speech pathologist demand.
Which Rhode Island cities have the most speech pathologist jobs?
Providence, Cranston, and Westerly have the most speech pathologist openings in Rhode Island. Providence dominates the distribution because it hosts the state's largest hospital systems and public school district, while Cranston and Warwick draw volume from community health centers, outpatient rehabilitation clinics, and suburban school systems that serve dense residential populations just outside the capital.
Are there remote speech pathologist jobs in Rhode Island?
Yes, but they're less common than in desk-based fields, since most speech pathology roles involve direct patient or student contact that requires an in-person setting. About 29% of speech pathologist openings tied to Rhode Island are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting a real but limited slice of the market. Teletherapy roles serving school districts or outpatient behavioral health practices represent the segment most likely to offer fully remote schedules.
How can I get hired as a speech pathologist in Rhode Island with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for clinical fellowship positions at Lifespan or Care New England, both of which regularly bring on new graduate SLPs under supervised fellowship arrangements that satisfy Rhode Island licensure requirements. Providence-area school districts post paraprofessional and therapy assistant roles that let candidates build classroom-based experience before moving into a licensed SLP position. Completing your Rhode Island Department of Health license application promptly after graduation and holding an up-to-date Praxis score gives you a measurable edge over candidates still awaiting credentialing.
Where can I find and apply to speech pathologist jobs in Rhode Island?
You can find and apply to speech pathologist jobs in Rhode Island on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, identify the positions that match your experience and preferred setting, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
