Assistant Professor (WOT) or Associate Professor (WOT) - Spine Service - Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine
Position Overview
Organization: Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine
Title: Assistant Professor (WOT) or Associate Professor (WOT) - Spine Service - Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine
Position Details
Position Description
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine at the University of Washington, in Seattle, has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time academic orthopaedic spine surgeon. This position will be based at the University of Washington Medical Center – the Montlake and Northwest Hospital Campuses. Responsibilities may include medical student, resident and fellow education. Additionally, the successful candidate is expected to develop a busy clinical practice and a robust program in clinical, educational methodologies, or basic science research. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a record of professionalism, academic accomplishments, and excellent clinical skills encompassing a broad spectrum of spine surgery.
The appointment will be made at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor rank, depending upon qualifications, all without tenure (WOT). The majority of School of Medicine faculty hired in the professorial track are hired under the WOT designation. Faculty appointed WOT have the same rights, responsibilities and obligations as tenure-track and tenured faculty members at those ranks. However, faculty appointed as WOT do not hold tenure because all or part of their annual University-administered salary is derived from sources other than regularly appropriated stated funds.
This position has a flexible start date in the fall of 2026. Assistant Professors (WOT) are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Associate Professors (WOT) hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. The successful candidate will be expected to support the department's commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community.
Salary
The base salary range for this position will be: $22,500 - $40,000 per month ($270,000 - $480,000 annually) dependent on rank and commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.
Other Compensation
In addition to the base salary mentioned above, other compensation associated with this position will include Monthly Additional Compensation (MAC) and Semi-Annual Additional Compensation (SAAC) through the UW Physicians practice plan.
