Structural Engineer Jobs in Charlotte: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a structural engineer job in Charlotte?
Focus your search on Charlotte's active commercial development, transportation, and municipal infrastructure sectors, where hiring is consistently strong. Firms concentrated in Uptown and South End tend to seek candidates with experience in mixed-use high-rise or bridge work, while firms serving the University City corridor often prioritize institutional and campus construction. Familiarity with local building codes and regional soil conditions gives candidates a real edge in Charlotte interviews.
Which companies hire structural engineers in Charlotte?
Companies currently hiring structural engineers in Charlotte include Sargent & Lundy, LJB, and HDR, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Charlotte's market is a mix of large civil and MEP engineering firms, regional AEC consultancies, and general contractors managing major transit and commercial projects across Mecklenburg County.
Are there remote structural engineer jobs in Charlotte?
Yes, though structural engineering skews toward on-site and in-office work because most roles involve fieldwork, site observation, or hands-on design review. About 43% of structural engineer openings tied to Charlotte are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with most remote flexibility concentrated in analytical, drafting, and document review portions of the role rather than construction administration.
How can I get a structural engineer job in Charlotte with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Charlotte is through a junior or EI-level role at a mid-size civil or structural engineering consultancy, many of which actively recruit new graduates for Charlotte's pipeline of infrastructure and commercial projects. Firms supporting the city's light rail expansion and Uptown development often onboard entry-level engineers for CAD drafting and load calculation support. A degree from UNC Charlotte's civil engineering program carries strong local name recognition with Charlotte-area employers.
Which industries hire the most structural engineers in Charlotte?
Charlotte structural engineer roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Construction & Real Estate, and Staffing & Recruiting, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Charlotte's rapid growth in transit-oriented development, commercial towers in South End, and healthcare campus expansions across the metro keeps demand in those sectors consistently ahead of other markets in the Southeast.
