Structural Engineer Jobs in Raleigh: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a structural engineer job in Raleigh?
Target the sectors driving the most local hiring: commercial real estate development downtown, transportation and infrastructure projects through the City of Raleigh and NCDOT, and the institutional construction tied to NC State University and the broader Research Triangle. Civil and structural engineering consultancies concentrated in North Hills and the RTP corridor are the most consistent hirers. Candidates with experience in commercial mixed-use or public infrastructure projects tend to stand out in this market.
Which companies hire structural engineers in Raleigh?
Raleigh structural engineer roles are posted by ANS, Jobot, and CDM Smith and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. The local market is a mix of mid-size consulting firms, regional general contractors, and public agencies tied to Raleigh's sustained commercial and infrastructure growth.
Are there remote structural engineer jobs in Raleigh?
Yes, though structural engineering is largely site-dependent, so fully remote roles are the exception rather than the rule. About 58% of structural engineer openings tied to Raleigh are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, mostly covering the analytical and design-heavy phases of a project. Hybrid arrangements are most common at consulting firms in North Hills and the RTP area, where project review and BIM modeling can be done off-site.
How can I get a structural engineer job in Raleigh with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Raleigh is targeting junior engineer or EIT roles at mid-size consulting firms, many of which recruit actively from NC State University's engineering program. Entry-level candidates also find openings through Raleigh-area general contractors who handle commercial and institutional builds. Relevant internship experience with a local firm, even a single summer placement, moves a resume to the top of the pile at smaller consultancies that value familiarity with regional building codes and site conditions.
Which industries hire the most structural engineers in Raleigh?
The sectors hiring the most structural engineers in Raleigh are Consulting & Professional Services, Staffing & Recruiting, and Construction & Real Estate, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Raleigh's sustained commercial development boom, ongoing public infrastructure investment, and the institutional construction tied to its university and healthcare campuses keep demand across those sectors consistently active.
