JOB SUMMARY
The project engineer position at Weeks Island is responsible for applying engineering knowledge to project planning and execution. This includes the preparation of capital and expense projects, the supervision of contractors and/or internal labor, and working with our maintenance team for the successful integration of new assets being commissioned. In addition to projects, the project engineer will assist the engineering team with other responsibilities such as surveying support, updating mine maps and daily production records/meetings.
Must have a Mine Project Engineer Degree and able to work independently with little instruction.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducting feasibility studies for proposed or assigned projects (includes investigation to collect data, estimation of cost and time requirements, report on alternatives and recommendations on courses of action).
- Prepare and submit expense and capital projects for facility related purchases. Follow up to aid division review process. Provide additional information as needed.
- Designing, developing, supervising work related to engineering projects.
- Keep all project records and accounting up to date. Maintains all mine drawing technical records.
- Conferring with buyers, vendors and contractors on equipment and service purchases for the mine; make technical engineering recommendations and inspects purchases upon delivery (e.g., loaders, fans, conveyor parts, etc.)
- Conducting mine inspections to ensure safe operations/conditions on all projects and as requested by management. Assist in ventilation studies and rock mechanics testing.
- Coordinating construction work between consulting engineers, contractors, department supervisors and hourly employees on specific projects.
- Consulting with mine management, production and maintenance personnel to provide engineering advice and knowledge on a specific day-to-day situations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of project management.
- Able to apply mining engineering principles and concepts to actual situations.
- Able to plan, organize and carry out project assignments from conception to completion.
- Able to supervise others.
- Ability to work in an underground environment.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Field work will include underground and surface industrial environment where potential dust, high temperatures, and other industrial and mine related hazards may be encountered. High work will be needed for measurement and monitoring activities.
