Most New York firms also value familiarity with New York City Building Code and DOB submission procedures.

Which New York cities have the most structural project engineer jobs?

New York City dominates hiring because of its volume of high-rise construction, transit expansion, and bridge rehabilitation projects, while Buffalo and Albany draw demand from regional infrastructure investment and state agency work.
Are there remote structural project engineer jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Structural project engineering is a hands-on discipline that regularly requires site visits, in-person coordination with contractors, and physical review of construction documents, which limits fully remote arrangements. About 20% of structural project engineer openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions typically involve design and analysis work rather than field or inspection responsibilities.
How can I get hired as a structural project engineer in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior or staff engineer role at a mid-size or large New York engineering firm while you accumulate the experience hours required for Professional Engineer licensure. Firms like WSP, AECOM, and Skidmore Owings and Merrill hire new graduates into structured project team roles in New York City. Having passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam and completing a senior capstone or internship on a real structural project gives candidates a clear edge in a competitive applicant pool.
