DESCRIPTION
Amazon Transportation is seeking a Supply Planning Manager to join the Intermodal Supply Chain team and take end-to-end ownership of one of the most critical programs in our outbound network: scaling transportation via rail. You will be building, shaping, and scaling a program from the ground up, one with the potential to unlock tens of millions of dollars in savings across the Amazon Transportation network.
Our team owns network design, supply planning, and the analytical frameworks that define the long-term outlook for intermodal operations. We are looking for a strong, self-driven leader who can own our multi-year planning cycles, design a network that keeps pace with Amazon's speed and growth ambitions, and navigate the complexity that comes with operating at this scale.
Why This Role Matters
Intermodal is a strategic lever for Amazon's transportation cost structure, and the decisions you make in this role, from lane strategy and volume planning to network design, will directly influence the efficiency and economics of outbound transportation for years to come. This is a high-visibility position where your network design recommendations and long-term scaling plans will shape how Amazon invests in and grows its intermodal capabilities, with regular exposure to senior leadership across the organization.
What Makes This Role Unique
You will be solving one of the most fascinating challenges in Amazon's transportation network: fitting the most time-sensitive outbound program onto an intermodal network that inherently does not move as fast as over-the-road trucking. This means you will not just be planning lanes and volumes, but actively working with national rail carriers to find ways to close the speed gap, rethink transit designs, and push the boundaries of what intermodal can deliver for Amazon's customer promise.
What To Expect
You will own the full lifecycle of intermodal network planning, spanning strategy, execution, and tooling, while operating at the intersection of multiple Transportation organizations that require you to drive alignment across teams with competing priorities and keep the program on a rapid scaling trajectory. You will also play a hands-on role in evolving our planning systems, working alongside Technology and Operations Research teams to close tooling gaps and push toward greater automation.
This is a challenging, ambiguous problem space with significant room to define the path forward, and if you are someone who combines sharp analytical instincts with the communication skills to influence senior audiences and wants to own a program where your decisions carry real financial weight, this role was built for you.
