Surgical Dental Assistant Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a surgical dental assistant in Washington?
You become a surgical dental assistant in Washington by first registering with the Washington State Department of Health Dental Quality Assurance Commission, which oversees dental assistant credentials in the state. Most surgical roles require completing an accredited dental assisting program and obtaining an Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary credential for advanced procedures. CPR certification is also required. Some employers additionally expect surgical assisting experience gained through externships or on-the-job training at an oral surgery or specialty practice.
Which companies hire surgical dental assistants in Washington?
Washington surgical dental assistant roles are posted by MultiCare Health System, CommonSpirit Health, and PeaceHealth and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Washington's strong concentration of specialty dental groups and academic medical centers means openings appear across both private oral surgery practices and large integrated health systems statewide.
Which Washington cities have the most surgical dental assistant jobs?
Seattle, Tacoma, and Spokane have the most surgical dental assistant openings in Washington. Seattle drives the largest share of postings given its density of specialty dental groups, academic institutions, and multi-site dental organizations, while Spokane and Tacoma contribute consistently because of established regional hospital systems and growing suburban dental practice networks that support oral surgery and implant services.
Are there remote surgical dental assistant jobs in Washington?
Yes, but they're rare. About 2% of surgical dental assistant openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how hands-on the role is by nature. The portions of the work most likely to have any remote component are administrative tasks such as pre-authorization coordination or patient scheduling, not direct clinical assisting.
How can I get hired as a surgical dental assistant in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a chairside or general dental assistant role first, then transitioning into surgical assisting once you have clinical hours. Washington community colleges like Shoreline, Spokane Falls, and Bellingham Technical offer accredited dental assisting programs with externship placements at area oral surgery practices. Large Washington employers such as Pacific Dental Services and UW Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery take on new-grad applicants and provide on-the-job surgical training. Obtaining your Washington State dental assistant registration and an up-to-date BLS certification before applying gives you a clear edge over candidates without credentials.
Where can I find and apply to surgical dental assistant jobs in Washington?
You can find and apply to surgical dental assistant jobs in Washington on Migrate Mate, which lists current Washington openings. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your experience and preferred location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
