Surgical Dental Assistant Jobs in Wisconsin: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a surgical dental assistant in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin dental assistants must register with the Wisconsin Dental Examining Board, which requires completing a board-approved dental assisting program and passing the required competency examination. For surgical roles specifically, most employers expect chairside surgical experience gained during clinical training or on the job. Earning the Certified Dental Assistant credential through the Dental Assisting National Board strengthens your candidacy and is increasingly expected by oral surgery practices across the state.
Which companies hire surgical dental assistants in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin surgical dental assistant roles are posted by Advocate Aurora Health, Froedtert & MCW, and Aspirus Health and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Wisconsin's larger oral surgery group practices and health system-affiliated dental departments tend to post the most consistently throughout the year.
Which Wisconsin cities have the most surgical dental assistant jobs?
Milwaukee, Madison, and Wausau lead Wisconsin in surgical dental assistant openings. Milwaukee dominates because of its concentration of hospital-affiliated dental departments and multi-specialty oral surgery groups, while Madison's openings are driven largely by UW Health and the surrounding university community, and Green Bay's market reflects the region's growing network of private oral surgery and periodontal practices.
Are there remote surgical dental assistant jobs in Wisconsin?
Yes, but they're rare. About 5% of surgical dental assistant openings tied to Wisconsin are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, which reflects the hands-on, chairside nature of the work. The portions of the role most suited to remote work include patient follow-up coordination, scheduling, and insurance pre-authorization tasks occasionally offered in a hybrid arrangement.
How can I get hired as a surgical dental assistant in Wisconsin with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a general dental assistant role at a Wisconsin oral surgery practice or health system dental clinic, where on-the-job surgical exposure comes quickly. UW Health and Froedtert-affiliated dental departments sometimes bring on new graduates for rotational or introductory surgical assistant positions. Completing your Wisconsin Dental Examining Board registration and obtaining CPR certification before applying gives you a concrete edge, and lateral moves from sterilization technician or dental receptionist roles at oral surgery offices are a common stepping stone.
Where can I find and apply to surgical dental assistant jobs in Wisconsin?
You can find and apply to surgical dental assistant jobs in Wisconsin on Migrate Mate, which lists current Wisconsin openings in one place. Search the roles that fit your experience level and credentials, then apply directly to the ones that match.
