Entry Level System Administrator Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level system administrator job?
Focus on foundational certifications like CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft's entry level credentials, which signal readiness to employers who hire at this stage. Hands-on experience matters too: a home lab, internship, or helpdesk role demonstrates real troubleshooting ability. Tailor your resume to each posting, highlighting any exposure to Active Directory, ticketing systems, or basic network administration.
Which companies hire entry level system administrators?
Companies hiring entry level system administrators right now include Raytheon, GlobalPoint, and BNH, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a broad range of employers, including managed service providers, large enterprises with dedicated IT departments, and government contractors that regularly bring on junior administrators to support growing infrastructure teams.
Are there remote entry level system administrator jobs?
Yes, though on-site roles still dominate at the entry level given the hands-on nature of the work. About 6% of entry level system administrator openings are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with remote roles more common in companies using cloud-based infrastructure where tickets and system management can be handled without a physical presence.
Are these new grad system administrator jobs?
Yes, these listings include new grad, recent graduate, and junior roles. A posting is new-grad friendly when it welcomes zero to two years of experience, accepts internship work or a home lab as qualifying experience, or lists foundational certifications rather than advanced credentials as requirements. Look for language like "entry level," "junior," or "will train" to identify roles built for candidates just starting out.
Which industries hire the most entry level system administrators?
Entry Level system administrator roles concentrate in Biotechnology & Pharmaceuticals, Consulting & Professional Services, and Education, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. These sectors tend to have large, distributed IT environments with enough routine administration work to bring on junior staff, making them reliable sources of first-role opportunities for candidates building their systems experience.
