Systems Engineer Jobs in Irvine: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a systems engineer job in Irvine?
Focus on Irvine's three dominant hiring sectors: defense and aerospace contractors, medical device and life sciences companies, and enterprise technology firms. Roles concentrate in the Irvine Spectrum and the business parks near the 405 and 5 interchange. Candidates with systems integration experience, model-based systems engineering skills, or a background in embedded systems stand out most in Irvine's employer mix.
Which companies hire systems engineers in Irvine?
Irvine systems engineer roles are posted by Parker Hannifin, Cyient, and Anduril and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Irvine's employer base skews toward established defense primes, mid-size medical device manufacturers, and regional tech firms, many of which maintain multi-year programs that generate steady hiring.
Are there remote systems engineer jobs in Irvine?
Yes, though the opportunity depends heavily on the specialty. Systems engineers working in hardware integration, lab testing, or on classified defense programs are almost always required on-site. About 33% of systems engineer openings tied to Irvine are remote or hybrid as of August 2026. Software-facing systems roles at Irvine's enterprise tech firms are the most likely to offer hybrid or fully remote arrangements.
How can I get a systems engineer job in Irvine with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Irvine is targeting associate systems engineer or systems analyst roles at mid-size defense contractors and medical device companies, which regularly hire new graduates with relevant project or internship experience. UC Irvine's engineering programs and nearby Cal State Fullerton feed directly into local hiring pipelines. Hands-on coursework in systems modeling, requirements management, or hardware-software integration gives early-career candidates a concrete edge with Irvine employers.
