Technical Solutions Architect Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a technical solutions architect in California?
Most technical solutions architects in California move into the role from software engineering, systems administration, or network engineering after building several years of hands-on technical experience. California employers typically expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or engineering alongside practical cloud or enterprise platform experience. There is no state-issued license required for this role in California. Earning a recognized cloud or platform certification such as AWS Solutions Architect or Google Professional Cloud Architect significantly strengthens candidacy with California technology and enterprise employers.
How much do technical solutions architects make in California?
Technical solutions architects in California earn a median of about $158,870 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $97,070 for the lowest 10% to over $224,930 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire technical solutions architects in California?
Employers hiring technical solutions architects in California right now include NVIDIA, Google, and Adobe, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of enterprise software headquarters, cloud infrastructure companies, and large financial services firms means demand for solutions architects is distributed across both the Bay Area tech corridor and Southern California enterprise and defense-adjacent markets.
Which California cities have the most technical solutions architect jobs?
San Francisco, Santa Clara, and San Jose account for the largest share of technical solutions architect openings in California. The Bay Area dominates because of its density of enterprise software companies, cloud providers, and technology headquarters, while Los Angeles draws demand from media technology, fintech, and large enterprise accounts, and San Diego's defense contracting and biotech sectors generate consistent openings for architects supporting complex, regulated environments.
Are there remote technical solutions architect jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 32% of technical solutions architect openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the work centers on architecture design, stakeholder presentations, and cloud-based collaboration rather than on-site infrastructure work. Pre-sales and cloud migration architecture roles tend to carry the most remote flexibility, while roles supporting data center operations or hands-on implementation typically require some on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a technical solutions architect in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving from a technical support, systems administration, or cloud engineering role into a junior or associate solutions architect position. Large California technology employers including Cisco, Salesforce, and Oracle run structured associate programs and early-career rotations that place candidates in pre-sales or solutions engineering tracks. Building a portfolio demonstrating cloud platform work, obtaining an entry-level certification such as AWS Cloud Practitioner or Google Associate Cloud Engineer, and targeting solutions engineer titles rather than architect titles directly gives candidates without formal architecture experience a competitive foot in the door.
Where can I find and apply to technical solutions architect jobs in California?
You can find and apply to technical solutions architect jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings across industries and metro areas. Find roles that fit your experience and specialization and apply directly to the ones that match.
