Director Operational Excellence Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a director operational excellence in California?
The most direct path is a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, business, or operations management, followed by progressive roles in process improvement or quality leadership. California employers at this level typically expect Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification from a recognized body such as ASQ or IASSC, and many prefer candidates who have led multi-site programs in a California-regulated industry like life sciences, aerospace, or healthcare. An MBA can accelerate advancement to director.
How much do director operational excellences make in California?
Director operational excellences in California earn a median of about $124,390 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $60,370 for the lowest 10% to over $293,810 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire director operational excellences in California?
Employers hiring director operational excellences in California right now include Augmentis, Sutter Health, and AbbVie, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. California's concentration of defense contractors, integrated health systems, and global biotech and tech headquarters means this role appears across a particularly broad range of industries compared with most other states.
Which California cities have the most director operational excellence jobs?
Sacramento, Los Angeles, and San Diego have the most director operational excellence openings in California. The Los Angeles Basin drives volume through its aerospace, defense, and entertainment supply chain operations, the Bay Area reflects demand from technology and biotech headquarters, and San Diego's concentration of life sciences and military contractors sustains consistent openings in that market.
Are there remote director operational excellence jobs in California?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely analytical roles, because the position typically requires on-site presence to observe processes, lead kaizen events, and manage plant or facility teams. About 57% of director operational excellence openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of August 2026. Strategy, program governance, and reporting responsibilities are the portions of the role most likely to be performed remotely.
How can I get hired as a director operational excellence in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from a quality engineer, operations analyst, or supply chain coordinator role into a process improvement specialist or continuous improvement manager position. Large California employers such as Kaiser Permanente, Northrop Grumman, and major Bay Area technology firms run rotational operations programs and internal continuous improvement pipelines that develop candidates without formal director experience. Earning an ASQ-recognized Six Sigma Green Belt and leading a measurable cost-reduction or cycle-time project gives candidates a concrete credential that California hiring managers look for before promoting or hiring into director-level roles.
Where can I find and apply to director operational excellence jobs in California?
You can find and apply to director operational excellence jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings updated regularly. Search the listings, find roles that fit your background and location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
