Assistant Vice President Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a assistant vice president in California?
Most assistant vice presidents in California reach the role through a combination of a bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field and several years of progressively senior experience in their industry. California does not issue a universal state license for this title, but sector-specific requirements apply: financial services candidates often hold FINRA Series licenses, healthcare administrators may need California Department of Public Health credentials, and real estate professionals require a California Bureau of Real Estate license. An MBA strengthens competitiveness for most industries.
Which companies hire assistant vice presidents in California?
Employers hiring assistant vice presidents in California right now include WSP in the U.S., WSP, and State Street, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of major bank headquarters, technology firms, and integrated health systems means hiring at this level is consistently active across multiple sectors.
Which California cities have the most assistant vice president jobs?
Irvine, Los Angeles, and San Francisco account for the most assistant vice president openings in California. Los Angeles and San Francisco dominate because of their dense concentrations of financial institutions, technology companies, and corporate headquarters, while San Diego's strong biotech, defense, and healthcare sectors drive consistent demand for senior managers in those industries.

Yes, and more than most senior roles, because assistant vice president work in technology, finance, and strategy is largely desk-based and analytically driven. About 18% of assistant vice president openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how broadly California employers have adopted flexible arrangements. Functions like financial analysis, product strategy, and compliance oversight tend to have the highest remote availability compared to operations or branch-facing roles.
How can I get hired as a assistant vice president in California with little or no experience?

Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and Kaiser Permanente all operate California-based leadership development programs that feed candidates into AVP-track roles within three to five years. Starting as a senior analyst, team lead, or associate director in a relevant department gives candidates the direct-report responsibility that most California hiring managers require before promoting to assistant vice president.
