Equipment Technician Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a equipment technician in California?
Most California employers expect at minimum an associate degree in electronics technology, mechanical engineering technology, or a related field, often from a California community college. The state has no single licensing board for equipment technicians broadly, but roles in specific sectors require additional credentials: biomedical technicians pursuing hospital positions often obtain CBET certification, while those working on pressurized or refrigeration systems must hold EPA 608 certification as required under federal and California regulations.
Which companies hire equipment technicians in California?
Employers hiring equipment technicians in California right now include Tesla, Horizon Oxygen & Medical Equipment, and Walmart, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. California's dense concentration of semiconductor fabs, medical device manufacturers, and aerospace primes means consistent year-round demand across the state.
Which California cities have the most equipment technician jobs?
Fremont, San Diego, and Sacramento have the most equipment technician openings in California. The distribution follows the state's industrial anchors: Silicon Valley and San Jose drive semiconductor and cleanroom demand, Los Angeles draws aerospace and entertainment technology roles, and San Diego's strong biomedical cluster generates steady openings from its medical device and life sciences companies.
Are there remote equipment technician jobs in California?
Yes, but they're rare. Equipment technicians typically work hands-on with physical hardware in cleanrooms, labs, factories, or field sites, which limits remote eligibility by nature. About 0% of equipment technician openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions tend to be in technical support, documentation, or remote diagnostics rather than direct equipment maintenance.
How can I get hired as a equipment technician in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is enrolling in an electronics or mechanical technology program at a California community college, many of which have direct pipelines to local employers. Large California manufacturers like Applied Materials and Lam Research run associate-level apprenticeship and co-op programs for candidates without prior industry experience. Entry roles with titles like equipment maintenance associate, manufacturing technician I, or field service assistant are common starting points, and holding an EPA 608 certification or a CBET student credential immediately signals hands-on readiness to hiring managers.
Where can I find and apply to equipment technician jobs in California?
You can find and apply to equipment technician jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings updated regularly. Find roles that fit your experience and specialty, then apply directly to the employer through the listing.
