Tips for Your Equipment Technician Job Search
List certifications above work history
Certifications like CBET, CCNA, or EPA 608 tell hiring managers more than your job titles do. Put them in a dedicated section near the top of your resume so screeners spot your credentials before they read anything else.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists equipment technician openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Translate repair logs into resume bullets
Quantify your maintenance work by describing the type of equipment, the failure mode you resolved, and the downtime you prevented or reduced. Hiring managers in manufacturing and healthcare care about uptime far more than general troubleshooting claims.
Filter openings by equipment type early
Search by the specific equipment you service, such as MRI machines, CNC equipment, or HVAC units, rather than the generic job title. Roles scoped to your specialty almost always progress faster from phone screen to offer.
Prepare for a hands-on skills assessment
Many equipment technician interviews include a bench test or a walk-through where you diagnose a staged fault. Review the equipment types listed in the job posting and be ready to explain your diagnostic logic out loud, step by step.
Negotiate shift differential and on-call terms
Equipment technician roles often involve rotating shifts or on-call coverage that significantly affects total compensation. Ask about the on-call schedule and any differential pay before you accept an offer, not after you've already given a verbal yes.
Equipment Technician Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most equipment technicians?
The companies hiring the most equipment technicians right now include Equipment Depot, RDO Equipment, and GlobalFoundries, with the largest share of openings in Texas, California, and Pennsylvania, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is especially concentrated in medical device, semiconductor fabrication, and industrial manufacturing sectors.
How many equipment technician jobs are remote?
About 1% of equipment technician openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the hands-on nature of most roles. Remote opportunities exist primarily in technical support, equipment monitoring, and documentation-heavy roles where physical access to hardware is not required every day.
How do you become an equipment technician?
Most equipment technicians complete an associate degree or technical certificate in electronics, mechatronics, or biomedical technology, then build hands-on experience through internships or entry-level roles. Earning a relevant certification, such as CBET for biomedical equipment or EPA 608 for HVAC, strengthens your candidacy. Continuing education on specific equipment platforms keeps your skills current as technology evolves.
How do you get an equipment technician job with little experience?
Start by applying to apprenticeship programs, military technical training, or entry-level maintenance helper roles that provide supervised hands-on time with real equipment. Employers in manufacturing and facilities management regularly hire candidates with strong technical coursework and certifications even when professional experience is limited. Documenting any lab, shop, or personal repair projects in your resume demonstrates practical capability beyond classroom credentials.
What does the equipment technician interview process look like?
Most equipment technician interviews begin with a phone screen focused on your equipment background and certifications, followed by an in-person or panel interview with a hiring manager and a lead technician. Many employers include a practical skills assessment where you diagnose a staged fault or walk through a maintenance procedure. References from supervisors who can speak to your hands-on work are typically requested before an offer is extended.
Where can I find and apply to equipment technician jobs?
You can find and apply to equipment technician jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search for roles that match your equipment specialty and experience level, then apply directly to each listing that fits. New openings are added regularly, so checking back frequently gives you access to the most current opportunities.
