Commercial Director - LNG & Gas Supply
National Grid lies at the heart of a transforming energy system, spanning the US and UK. Our businesses supply gas and electricity, safely, reliably and efficiently to millions of customers and communities. But we also drive change through engineering innovation and by incubating new ideas with the power to revolutionize our industry.
National Grid Ventures (NGV) is the competitive division of National Grid plc, one of the largest investor-owned energy companies in the world. It operates outside of National Grid’s core regulated businesses in the US and UK where it develops, operates and invests in energy projects, technologies and partnerships to accelerate the development of our clean energy future.
National Grid Ventures’ diverse portfolio of energy businesses across the US, UK and Europe includes sub-sea electricity interconnectors, liquefied natural gas, battery storage, as well as conventional generation assets on Long Island.
National Grid Ventures is hiring a Commercial Director, LNG & Gas Supply to lead the commercial strategy for its Providence LNG business and to develop the gas supply and commercial frameworks for potential new generation projects serving existing and future customers. This hybrid position can sit in either our Boston, MA, Waltham, MA, or Brooklyn, NY office.
Job Purpose
National Grid Ventures owns and operates Providence LNG, a critical LNG peak shaver with storage, vaporization, and liquefaction facilities, which provides essential winter reliability for gas customers across New England. NGV also seeks to advance new generation to serve rapidly growing demand on the electricity grid — including data centers — through utility-scale gas generation and integrated power solutions across multiple US markets.
The Commercial Director, LNG & Gas Supply will serve as the senior commercial leader across two strategic areas:
- LNG — Owning the end-to-end commercial strategy for the Providence LNG business, including regulatory and ratemaking, contract negotiations, commercial risk management, and long-term business optimization.
- Gas supply — Leading gas supply strategy, procurement, and commercial structuring for new-build generation projects, including fuel supply agreements, pipeline transportation, and commercial arrangements that underpin project economics.
This role requires a leader with deep commercial judgment, regulatory sophistication, and the ability to operate in an agile environment at both a strategic and transactional level. The Commercial Director will represent NGV in regulatory proceedings, lead high-stakes negotiations with customers and counterparties, and shape commercial frameworks for a growing portfolio. This role reports to the Chief Commercial Officer of NGV US.

Tips for Your Commercial Director Job Search
Quantify revenue impact on your resume
Commercial directors are hired to grow revenue, so your resume needs dollar figures and percentages attached to outcomes. Replace phrases like 'led sales team' with the pipeline value you managed or the year-over-year growth you delivered.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists commercial director openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Tailor your materials to company stage
A commercial director role at a Series B startup looks nothing like one at a Fortune 500. Early-stage postings want someone who can build go-to-market from scratch, so swap out enterprise process language for examples of building pipelines with limited resources.
Target industries where your deals closed
Commercial director hiring managers want someone who already understands their buyer's procurement cycle and objections. Filter your search by the industries where you've closed deals, not just the largest companies, to find openings where your experience translates fastest.
Prepare a commercial narrative for interviews
Interviewers at this level expect you to walk them through a deal from origination to close, including how you handled stalled negotiations or changed your pricing strategy mid-cycle. Prepare two or three deal stories with specific stakes and decisions, not just outcomes.
Negotiate scope before you negotiate compensation
Before discussing pay, clarify the budget authority you'll hold, the team size, and whether the role owns marketing as well as sales. A commercial director title with limited P&L control has a very different ceiling than one with full revenue ownership.
Commercial Director Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most commercial directors?
The companies hiring the most commercial directors right now include Thermo Fisher Scientific, Alvarez & Marsal, and Bank Of Montreal, with the largest share of openings in New Jersey, Massachusetts, and California, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is consistently strong in technology, healthcare services, and financial products companies scaling their enterprise sales functions.
How many commercial director jobs are remote?
About 35% of commercial director openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, though fully on-site roles remain common in manufacturing and regulated industries. Revenue strategy, partner management, and enterprise account leadership tend to have the highest share of remote and hybrid arrangements among commercial director specializations.
How do you become a commercial director?
Most commercial directors come up through quota-carrying roles in enterprise sales, business development, or strategic accounts, then move into team leadership before stepping into a director title. Building cross-functional experience with marketing, product, and finance teams matters, because the role typically requires coordinating pricing, positioning, and pipeline strategy across multiple departments.
Can you get hired as a commercial director without direct director experience?
Yes, but you'll need to show leadership scope that matches the role even without the title. Candidates who managed a regional book of business, ran a product line's go-to-market, or led a cross-functional revenue initiative often move into commercial director roles by demonstrating that their decisions already operated at that level of complexity and ownership.
What does the commercial director interview process look like?
The process typically runs three to five rounds and includes a recruiter screen, a hiring manager conversation focused on your commercial approach, a panel interview with sales, marketing, or finance stakeholders, and often a presentation where you're asked to outline a go-to-market strategy or respond to a revenue challenge specific to the company's business.
Where can I find and apply to commercial director jobs?
You can find and apply to commercial director jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Find the roles that match your background and apply directly to each listing from the same place.
