Tips for Your Jira Administrator Job Search
Tailor your resume to Atlassian stack depth
Recruiters scan for specific Atlassian products beyond Jira itself. Call out Confluence, Jira Service Management, and any marketplace apps you've administered. Listing the scale of your instance, such as user count or project count, signals real hands-on scope.
Highlight permission scheme and workflow experience
Job descriptions for jira administrator roles almost always ask about permission schemes, issue type hierarchies, and custom workflows. Name these explicitly in your work history bullet points rather than burying them under a generic 'configured Jira' line.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists jira administrator openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter openings by deployment model
Jira Cloud, Data Center, and Server roles require meaningfully different skill sets. When searching, note the deployment type in each listing and focus your applications on the platform you know deepest so your experience reads as immediately relevant.
Prepare a live demo or documented portfolio
Bring screenshots or a short screen recording of a workflow, board configuration, or automation rule you built. Interviewers for jira administrator roles respond well to concrete before-and-after examples that show how your changes reduced ticket backlog or improved team visibility.
Negotiate beyond base pay with training coverage
Atlassian certifications carry real cost. In negotiations, ask whether the employer covers ACP exam fees and annual Atlassian training credits. Many teams budget for this and will include it if you ask, even when base salary flexibility is limited.
Jira Administrator Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most jira administrators?
The most active employers for jira administrators right now are Leidos, MANTECH, and Raytheon, and the most openings are in District of Columbia, Nevada, and Illinois, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Technology and financial services firms tend to post the highest volume of these roles year-round.
How many jira administrator jobs are remote?
About 0% of jira administrator openings are fully remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the tool-centric nature of the work. Roles focused on cloud instance administration and automation rule building tend to be the most remote-friendly, while positions that involve close collaboration with agile delivery teams more often require on-site or hybrid presence.
How do you become a jira administrator?
Start by setting up a free Jira Cloud site to practice configuring projects, workflows, and permission schemes on your own. Work through Atlassian's official training courses, then pursue the Atlassian Certified Professional exam to validate your skills. Entry-level IT support or project coordinator roles that use Jira day-to-day are a practical path to building the experience employers expect before hiring a dedicated admin.
Can you get a jira administrator job with little experience?
Yes, candidates with limited formal experience are regularly hired into junior jira administrator roles by demonstrating hands-on familiarity with the platform. Build a personal Jira Cloud instance, document the workflows and automations you create, and earn at least one Atlassian certification. Applying to organizations that are mid-migration from Server to Cloud often offers the most entry points because teams need extra administrative support during the transition.
What does the jira administrator interview process look like?
Most hiring processes include an initial recruiter screen, a technical interview with scenario-based questions on workflow design, permission schemes, and troubleshooting, and sometimes a take-home configuration task or live demo. A final round typically involves meeting the team or project managers who rely on the platform daily. Being ready to walk through a real project you configured end-to-end is the most common expectation at the technical stage.
Where can I find and apply to jira administrator jobs?
You can find and apply to jira administrator jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level and technical background, then apply directly to each one that fits.
