Test Engineer Jobs in San Diego: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a test engineer job in San Diego?
Focus your search on San Diego's defense contractors, aerospace primes, and semiconductor firms concentrated in Kearny Mesa, Sorrento Valley, and the Miramar corridor. Hands-on experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing, RF systems, or embedded firmware gives you a clear edge here. Networking through local IEEE chapters and defense-industry meetups also surfaces openings that don't appear on public listings.
Which companies hire test engineers in San Diego?

San Diego's market leans heavily toward prime defense contractors, aerospace systems integrators, and medical device manufacturers, giving test engineers a wide range of industry contexts to choose from.
Are there remote test engineer jobs in San Diego?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on role type. Hardware validation and systems integration work is largely on-site, while automation engineering and software QA roles are far more remote-friendly. About 37% of test engineer openings tied to San Diego are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with software-focused and cloud-based testing positions accounting for most of that share.
How can I get a test engineer job in San Diego with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in San Diego is targeting test technician or junior QA roles at mid-size defense subcontractors and medical device firms, where training pipelines are more structured than at large primes. Familiarity with LabVIEW, Python scripting, or NI test hardware sharpens your candidacy. San Diego Community College's electronics and instrumentation programs also feed directly into local entry-level pipelines.
