INTRODUCTION
The Design Technology Team empowers Adobe’s Design organization through tools, services, and other resources. Our mission is to find points of friction within the design process and optimize them, use technology like AI and automation to simplify workflows, and build foundational services for designers and builders at Adobe.
Our team delivers solutions across the product lifecycle, from AI-assisted prototyping to deployment and hosting infrastructure.
We're looking for a Senior Engineer to build and scale these platforms. You'll work full-stack, building everything from React and Web Components on the frontend to Node.js services and AI/LLM integrations on the backend. This is a role for someone who understands that great engineering for designers requires deep empathy for how designers work, someone who thinks about developer experience and design system architecture with equal care.
You'll collaborate closely with the team to ship production-quality tools used by designers across Adobe. You'll integrate modern AI capabilities into design workflows, build applications that feel intuitive to use, and solve the unique technical challenges of building tools for creative professionals.
If you love building developer/designer tools, care deeply about craft and user experience, and want to shape the future of how designers work at Adobe, we'd love to meet you.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Build Full-Stack Features for Internal Tools & Services
- Develop frontend components using React and Lit (Web Components) that feel polished, performant, and intuitive for designers to use
- Build backend services in Node.js to support design workflows, AI integrations, asset management, and collaboration features
- Architect and implement AI/LLM integrations (OpenAI, Anthropic, Hugging Face) that augment design capabilities in meaningful ways
- Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code that other engineers can build on
- Support users with questions and problems they face using our tools
Own Technical Architecture & Design System Development
- Design and implement scalable component architectures for internal platforms, balancing flexibility, performance, and ease of use
- Build developer tooling, build systems, and documentation that make tools & workflows easy to adopt and extend
- Collaborate with the team to translate design vision into technical implementation, ensuring high-fidelity execution while identifying technical constraints early
- Establish patterns and standards for component development, testing, and versioning
Integrate AI & LLM Capabilities
- Build integrations with AI/LLM APIs to power intelligent features in our tools
- Design prompt engineering strategies, RAG pipelines, and agent workflows that deliver reliable, useful results
- Optimize AI features for performance, cost, and user experience
- Know the latest on AI/LLM developments and bring relevant capabilities into the team's products
Collaborate multi-functionally
- Partner with designers to understand workflows and struggles, translating user needs into technical solutions
- Work with engineering partners across Adobe to create and integrate tools & workflows into existing products and pipelines
- Contribute to technical discussions, code reviews, and architectural decisions
- Share knowledge with the team and help elevate engineering practices
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
What you need to succeed
Must-haves:
- 5–8 years of software engineering experience building web applications and developer tools
- Strong frontend development skills with React and modern JavaScript/TypeScript

- Solid backend development experience with Node.js and REST APIs
- Hands-on experience building with AI/LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Hugging Face, or similar)
- Understanding of design systems and component library architecture—you've built or contributed to one before
- Experience with build tools, package management (npm), and modern development workflows
- Strong grasp of Git workflows and collaborative development practices
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with designers, product managers, and other engineers
- Design sensibility, you understand what makes a good user experience and care about the details
Nice-to-haves:
- Experience with TypeScript in production codebases
- Familiarity with design tools like Figma and understanding of design-to-code workflows
- Experience with prompt engineering, RAG architectures, or AI agent frameworks
- Background in developer experience (DX) or building tools for other engineers/designers
- Familiarity with Adobe's creative tools (Photoshop, Illustrator, Firefly, Express)
- Experience with Vite, Rollup, or other modern build tooling
- Understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design practices

Align your credentials to Computer Systems Analyst
TN visa classification for backend roles depends on fitting the Computer Systems Analyst category. Gather transcripts showing a degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field before you start applying.
Target employers with active USMCA hiring experience
Look for job postings that explicitly mention TN visa eligibility or USMCA professionals. Employers who have navigated TN filings before move faster and are less likely to stall on the offer letter.
Request a role-specific TN support letter
Your offer letter must describe your backend duties in terms that map to the Computer Systems Analyst definition. Generic job descriptions get flagged at the border. Ask your employer to detail the server-side systems work, not just your job title.
Understand the Canadian border versus Mexican consular path
Canadian citizens can present their TN package at a U.S. port of entry and get same-day admission. Mexican citizens must book a consular appointment and plan for longer lead times due to the annual allocation limit.
Search for sponsoring backend roles using Migrate Mate
Filter by TN visa sponsorship directly on Migrate Mate to surface Backend Engineer roles where employers have already confirmed they'll support USMCA applicants, cutting out companies unfamiliar with the process.
Prepare for an employer's E-Verify enrollment question
Some hiring teams ask whether TN holders can work while E-Verify is pending. TN status is self-executing upon admission, so you're authorized to start on day one. E-Verify confirms eligibility but doesn't gate your start date.
Backend Engineer TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Backend Engineer role qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
Backend Engineer positions qualify under the TN visa's Computer Systems Analyst category when the role involves designing, developing, or maintaining server-side systems, APIs, or databases. The classification depends on your actual duties and your degree, not just your job title. A generic title paired with a vague job description can create problems at the port of entry or consulate, so the offer letter language matters.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Backend Engineers?
TN visa sponsorship for Backend Engineers is faster and more predictable than H-1B visa. There is no lottery, no annual cap for Canadians, and no multi-month USCIS adjudication wait. Canadian citizens can receive TN status at the border on the same day. The trade-off is that TN is non-immigrant status with no direct path to a green card, while H-1B visa allows dual intent.
What documents does my employer need to provide for TN sponsorship?
Your employer must provide a signed support letter on company letterhead that describes your backend engineering duties, confirms the role is a specialty occupation under the Computer Systems Analyst definition, states your anticipated length of employment, and lists your salary. You pair this with your degree transcripts and a valid Canadian or Mexican passport. USCIS and CBP both look at whether the letter ties your specific duties to the TN category.
How can I find Backend Engineer jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you filter Backend Engineer job listings specifically by TN visa sponsorship, so you're only seeing employers who have confirmed they'll support USMCA applicants. Searching general job boards often surfaces listings where the recruiter isn't sure whether the company sponsors TN status, which wastes time during the offer stage.
Can I switch Backend Engineer employers while on TN status?
Yes, but TN status is employer-specific, meaning you can't start with a new employer until you have a new TN approval in place. Canadian citizens can go to a port of entry with the new employer's support letter and receive an updated TN the same day. Mexican citizens need to apply at a consulate. Working for the new employer before the new TN is approved creates a status violation.
