Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Building Automation Systems
Map your credentials to TN categories
BAS roles can qualify under engineer or computer systems analyst, depending on your degree and job duties. Confirm your credential maps to one specific TN category before applying, as mismatches at the port of entry cause immediate denials.
Target employers with recent visa filings
Search for employers with recent visa filings for engineering or systems analyst roles. These employers have experience with visa sponsorship processes and understand the documentation requirements involved in supporting international workers.
Get your Canadian credentials pre-verified
If your engineering degree is from a Canadian university, confirm it maps to a U.S. equivalent four-year bachelor's degree before your port-of-entry interview. CBP officers assess degree equivalency on the spot, and an ambiguous credential can delay or derail your entry.
Search for TN-sponsoring BAS employers on Migrate Mate
Filter for Building Automation Systems roles at employers with recent visa filings on Migrate Mate. It surfaces companies experienced with work visa sponsorship, so you spend less time cold-screening companies unfamiliar with USMCA work authorization requirements.
Negotiate the support letter before your offer letter
Your employer's TN support letter must describe your BAS duties in terms that match your qualifying TN category. Ask your hiring manager to confirm this detail with HR or counsel before countersigning your offer, not after, to avoid a rewrite at the border.
Understand Mexican TN processing timelines
Mexican citizens apply for TN status through consular processing, not at a land port of entry. Factor three to six weeks for a U.S. consulate appointment into your start date negotiation so your employer sets a realistic onboarding timeline from the beginning.

Find Building Automation Systems JobsBuilding Automation Systems TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Building Automation Systems role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, if your degree and job duties align with a recognized TN category such as engineer or computer systems analyst. The role must require at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. BAS positions that involve HVAC controls programming, building management system integration, or network infrastructure typically fit one of these categories, but the specific duties in your offer letter determine eligibility, not the job title alone.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Building Automation Systems jobs?
TN is significantly more accessible for this role. There is no lottery, no annual cap for Canadian citizens, and you can often get status approved at a Canadian port of entry the same day you apply. H-1B requires employer sponsorship months in advance, a lottery selection, and a wait until October 1 to begin work. For BAS professionals who are Canadian or Mexican citizens, TN is almost always the faster path.
Can I use Migrate Mate to find Building Automation Systems jobs with TN sponsorship?
Yes. Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals looking for U.S. roles with TN visa sponsorship. You can filter by job category and sponsorship type to find BAS employers who already understand USMCA work authorization, which cuts down the time you spend educating hiring teams about how TN status works.
What documents do I need to bring to the port of entry for a BAS TN application?
You need a valid Canadian passport, a detailed support letter from your employer, and your degree or transcripts confirming your field of study. For engineering-track BAS roles, provincial engineering licenses can strengthen your application, though they are not always required. CBP officers may also ask for a copy of the job description to verify that your duties match the TN category your employer listed in the support letter.
What happens to my TN status if my Building Automation Systems employer is acquired?
If a corporate acquisition results in a successor employer that takes on all of your same job duties and working conditions, your TN status can generally continue without an immediate refiling. If your role changes materially, your title changes, or the new entity operates under a different legal name, you should file for a new TN approval to avoid unauthorized work status. Review the acquisition terms with your employer's HR or counsel before your first day with the new entity.
