Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Category Manager
Align your credentials to USMCA requirements
Category Manager TN petitions file under Management Consultant. Your degree must be in business, economics, supply chain, or a related field. A marketing degree paired with procurement experience often raises questions, so prepare a credential explanation letter in advance.
Target companies with active procurement functions
Retailers, consumer goods companies, and distributors with dedicated category management teams are far more likely to support TN sponsorship than generalist employers. Search job postings that list strategic sourcing, vendor negotiation, or assortment planning as core duties.
Request a business purpose letter early
Your employer's support letter must describe your role as a project-based or advisory management function, not ongoing operational management. CBP officers scrutinize Category Manager petitions where duties read as permanent staff work rather than specialized consulting.
Understand Mexican citizens face a cap
Unlike Canadians, Mexican TN applicants must schedule a consular interview and work within the annual TN allocation. Apply as early as possible in the fiscal year. If the cap is exhausted, your start date shifts, so build buffer time into your offer negotiation.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Not every employer advertising Category Manager roles will support TN visa sponsorship. Use Migrate Mate to filter for employers with recent visa filings, so you spend your outreach on companies already experienced with hiring across the border.
Negotiate your offer before the TN filing
The TN petition locks in your job title, duties, and employer. If your responsibilities change significantly after entry, you may need to refile. Confirm your exact title and scope in writing before your employer prepares the support letter or I-129 petition.

Find Category Manager JobsCategory Manager TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Category Manager role actually qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, but the framing matters. Category Manager roles qualify under the USMCA Management Consultant category, which requires that your duties involve specialized advisory or analytical work rather than general operational management. Your employer's support letter must describe vendor strategy, assortment analysis, or category planning functions. Purely supervisory or administrative duties are harder to sustain at the border.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Category Manager positions?
TN has no lottery, no annual cap for Canadian citizens, and can be approved at the port of entry the same day. H-1B requires entering a randomized lottery, waiting months for a decision, and paying substantially higher filing fees. For Category Managers with Canadian or Mexican citizenship and a qualifying degree, TN is a faster and more predictable path than H-1B.
Where can I find Category Manager jobs with TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate specializes in connecting Canadian and Mexican professionals with U.S. employers who actively sponsor TN visas. Generic job boards don't filter by visa sponsorship type, so you'll spend significant time identifying which employers will actually support a TN filing. Migrate Mate's search removes that guesswork by surfacing roles from confirmed TN-sponsoring companies.
Can I switch Category Manager employers after entering on a TN visa?
Yes, but you can't start working for the new employer until a new TN is approved or granted. Canadian citizens can apply at a port of entry with a new support letter and be approved the same day. Mexican citizens need a new consular appointment. Your TN is employer-specific, so plan your transition timeline around the refiling process.
What documents does my employer need to prepare for a Category Manager TN petition?
Your employer needs a detailed support letter on company letterhead describing your specific duties, your Canadian or Mexican citizenship, your start date, and confirmation that you hold a qualifying degree. For I-129 filings handled by USCIS, the employer also submits the petition form and filing fees. Canadian citizens using port-of-entry processing present the support letter directly to CBP alongside proof of your degree and citizenship.
