TN Visa Gastroenterologist Jobs
Gastroenterologist roles qualify for TN visa sponsorship under the USMCA treaty's physician provisions, but the classification requires a specialty occupation match between your board certification and the offered position. Canadian citizens can secure TN status at the port of entry; Mexican nationals apply through a U.S. consulate. No lottery, no annual cap for Canadians.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Gastroenterologist
Verify your credentials meet TN physician requirements
TN classification for physicians requires a medical degree plus a valid license in the state where you'll practice. Confirm your Canadian or Mexican medical credentials are recognized by the relevant state medical board before approaching employers.
Target health systems with existing TN filing experience
Large hospital networks and academic medical centers regularly sponsor TN visas for gastroenterologists. Prioritize employers with recent visa filings, since their HR teams are already experienced with work visa sponsorship processes and can move quickly on your support letter and port-of-entry application.
Request a role-specific support letter from your employer
Your employer's TN support letter must explicitly name gastroenterology as your specialty and tie your duties to the physician USMCA category. A generic offer letter missing those details can cause a CBP denial at the port of entry, even with valid credentials.
Search TN-ready gastroenterologist openings through Migrate Mate
TN-eligible gastroenterologist positions are not always labeled as such in standard job searches. Use Migrate Mate to filter for roles where employers have recent visa filings, so you spend time on positions at organizations experienced with work visa sponsorship.
Understand how Mexican nationals handle the consulate process
Unlike Canadians, Mexican nationals cannot obtain TN status at the port of entry and must schedule a consular interview at a U.S. embassy or consulate in Mexico. Build at least four to six weeks of lead time into your start date negotiation to account for appointment availability.
Prepare a state license strategy before your TN is approved
Some hospitals require a full state medical license before finalizing your contract, not just board certification. If your license application is pending, negotiate a conditional start date and document the application status in your employment agreement to avoid gaps in your TN timeline.

Find Gastroenterologist JobsGastroenterologist TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Gastroenterologist role qualify for TN visa classification?
Yes. Gastroenterologists qualify under the TN visa's physician category, which covers professionals holding a medical degree and licensed to practice in the destination state. The employer's support letter must specifically describe your gastroenterology duties and confirm the position meets the specialty occupation standard. A general internal medicine or hospitalist framing can undermine the petition, so the role description matters.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for gastroenterologists?
TN sponsorship is significantly more straightforward for gastroenterologists than H-1B. There is no lottery, no annual cap for Canadian nationals, and Canadian citizens can receive TN status on the same day at a U.S. port of entry. H-1B requires a full USCIS petition process, premium processing fees, and is subject to the annual lottery with no guarantee of selection. For most Canadian and Mexican gastroenterologists with a confirmed offer, TN is the faster and more predictable path.
Can a gastroenterologist practice across multiple states on a single TN visa?
Your TN visa is tied to the employer and work location named in your petition. If you practice at facilities in multiple states, each location should be accounted for in your support letter or through separate employer agreements. Obtaining a medical license in each relevant state is a prerequisite regardless of TN status, and practicing in an unlisted state can create compliance issues with both USCIS and state medical boards.
Where can I find gastroenterologist positions that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Most standard job searches don't filter by visa sponsorship type, which makes it hard to identify employers actually prepared to file a TN petition. Migrate Mate is built specifically for this: you can search gastroenterologist openings filtered by TN sponsorship readiness, so you're not spending time on roles where sponsorship is uncertain or unavailable.
How long does TN visa approval take for a gastroenterologist entering from Canada?
Canadian citizens applying at a U.S. port of entry can receive TN approval the same day, provided all documentation is complete and consistent. This includes the employer's support letter, proof of Canadian citizenship, your medical degree, and evidence of state licensure or license eligibility. Mexican nationals face longer timelines due to the consular appointment requirement, typically ranging from several weeks to two months depending on consulate availability and administrative processing.
