Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship in Health Physicist
Document your physics credentials before applying
TN visa adjudicators expect a degree in physics, health physics, or a closely related field. If your credential is from a Canadian or Mexican institution, have a degree equivalency letter ready to confirm U.S. bachelor's-level equivalence before you start interviewing.
Target employers in regulated radiation environments
Nuclear power plants, hospital radiation safety departments, national laboratories, and federal contractors in defense or energy all hire Health Physicists regularly and are accustomed to TN sponsorship paperwork. Roles at unregulated or small employers often lack the infrastructure to support a TN filing.
Verify the job title matches the USMCA scientist category
TN approval depends on the offered role fitting the scientist classification. If an employer titles the position 'Safety Specialist' or 'Radiation Technician,' the officer may deny entry. Ask the employer to use 'Health Physicist' explicitly in the offer letter.
Search for TN-sponsoring employers through Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters Health Physicist jobs by employers with active TN visa sponsorship history, so you're not cold-applying to companies that have never navigated USMCA filings. Use it to focus your outreach on employers already set up to hire you.
Prepare a specific support letter for Canadian port-of-entry entry
Canadian citizens skip USCIS entirely and present their case directly to a CBP officer. The employer support letter must describe your duties, confirm the health physics specialty occupation, state the one- or three-year period, and include your compensation. Vague letters are the most common reason for port-of-entry delays.
Confirm your Mexican TN appointment covers specialty documentation
Mexican nationals apply at a U.S. consulate and must bring the DS-160, appointment confirmation, a valid passport, the employer support letter, and proof of your qualifying degree. Consular officers for technical science roles often review credentials more closely than for business categories, so bring transcripts.
Health Physicist TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Health Physicist qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
Yes. Health Physicist falls under the USMCA scientist category, which covers professionals with a degree in physics or health physics working in radiation safety, dosimetry, or nuclear compliance. The job title in your offer letter must reflect the Health Physicist role specifically. A mismatched title like 'Safety Officer' can result in a denial at entry or during consular review.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for Health Physicist roles?
TN has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadians, and no USCIS petition requirement for Canadian citizens, who can gain status directly at a port of entry. H-1B requires employer sponsorship through a lottery with roughly a 25% selection rate. For Health Physicists with Canadian or Mexican citizenship, TN is almost always faster and more predictable than pursuing H-1B.
Where can I find Health Physicist jobs with TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for TN visa job seekers and filters Health Physicist postings by employers with sponsorship history under USMCA. Most general job boards don't distinguish between TN-ready employers and those unfamiliar with the process, so you can spend weeks pursuing leads that stall at the offer stage when the employer discovers they don't know how to file.
Can I switch Health Physicist employers while on TN status?
Yes, but you need a new TN before starting with the new employer. Canadian citizens can obtain the new TN at a port of entry with a fresh support letter from the new employer. Mexican nationals need a new consular appointment. Unlike H-1B portability under AC21, there is no grace period that allows you to begin work before the new TN is approved.
What happens if my Health Physicist role involves work at multiple sites?
Multi-site work is allowed under TN status, but the employer support letter should describe the scope of your duties and note that assignments occur at client or facility locations. Federal contractors working at Department of Energy sites or nuclear plants under service agreements commonly structure TN letters this way. CBP officers may ask clarifying questions at entry, so a detailed letter reduces delays.
