Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Loss Prevention Detective
Frame your credentials around specialty occupation
Loss Prevention Detective roles qualify for TN status only when the position requires a relevant bachelor's degree. Gather your diploma, transcripts, and any professional certifications in loss prevention or security management before approaching employers.
Target retailers with dedicated asset protection teams
Large national retailers, pharmacy chains, and grocery distributors maintain in-house loss prevention departments structured around investigative roles. These employers already have HR teams familiar with TN sponsorship and won't treat your visa status as an obstacle.
Clarify TN eligibility before signing any offer letter
Confirm with the hiring manager that the posted role requires a degree in criminology, criminal justice, or a directly related field. A job description listing experience as a substitute for education can disqualify your TN petition at the port of entry.
Request a support letter covering all TN requirements
Your employer's support letter must state your job title, duties, degree requirement, TN category, and intended employment period. Gaps in any of these details are a common reason CBP officers ask additional questions for Loss Prevention Detective petitions.
Use Migrate Mate to find employers already sponsoring TN roles
Search for Loss Prevention Detective positions at employers with recent visa filings using Migrate Mate. Partnering with companies experienced in visa sponsorship means they're already familiar with work authorization processes, saving you time during the hiring conversation.
Prepare for Mexican nationals' consular appointment requirements
Unlike Canadian citizens who can apply at a U.S. port of entry, Mexican nationals must schedule a consular interview. Book your appointment through the U.S. embassy or consulate early, as wait times vary significantly by location and season.

Find Loss Prevention Detective JobsLoss Prevention Detective TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Loss Prevention Detective role actually qualify for TN visa status?
It depends on how the role is defined. TN status requires the position to fall under a qualifying USMCA occupation category and to require a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as criminology or criminal justice. A Loss Prevention Detective role framed around general security experience rather than a specific degree requirement will not qualify. The job offer and support letter must clearly establish the degree requirement.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for Loss Prevention Detective jobs?
TN is faster and more predictable than H-1B for this role. There is no annual lottery, no cap for Canadian citizens, and no multi-month wait for USCIS adjudication. Canadian citizens can receive TN status at the port of entry the same day. Mexican nationals need a consular appointment but still avoid the H-1B lottery entirely. The main constraint is that TN status is employer-tied and must be renewed with each job change.
What documents does my employer need to provide for my TN petition?
Your employer must provide a support letter on company letterhead that includes your job title, a description of duties, the USMCA occupational category, the minimum degree requirement for the role, your salary, and the intended duration of employment. You'll also need your original degree credential and transcripts. Canadian citizens present these documents directly to a CBP officer at a designated port of entry or pre-clearance location.
Where can I find Loss Prevention Detective jobs where employers already understand TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking U.S. roles with TN visa sponsorship. Searching there filters for employers with documented sponsorship experience, which means you spend less time explaining TN eligibility to recruiters who have never processed a USMCA petition for an investigative or asset protection role.
Can I switch Loss Prevention Detective employers while on TN status?
Yes, but TN status is employer-specific. You can't simply transfer your existing TN to a new employer the way some other visa categories allow. You'll need to obtain new TN authorization tied to the new employer before starting work. Canadian citizens can do this at a port of entry. Mexican nationals must return to a U.S. consulate for a new stamp, so plan the transition timeline carefully.
