Description
The College of Health Solutions (CHS) at Arizona State University (ASU) is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scholar to join the newly established Nourish to Flourish Studio, an interdisciplinary initiative advancing education, research, and innovation at the intersection of nutrition, health, technology, and human flourishing. The position will be supervised by Dr. Corrie Whisner and Dr. Christopher Wharton and collaborate closely with faculty and partners across ASU Health, the College of Health Solutions, and the Principled Innovation ecosystem. This is a 12-month appointment that may be renewed for subsequent one-year terms up to four years, contingent on continued satisfactory performance, the continued availability of funding and the needs of the program, and as long as you are within five years from receipt of the doctoral degree.
The Nourish to Flourish Studio is part of a university-wide effort to reimagine health professional education, nutrition science, and community-engaged research through the lens of human flourishing. The Studio integrates principles of nutrition, food systems, character development, community engagement, digital health innovation (e.g., digital twinning), and emerging technologies to address complex health challenges and improve well-being across populations.
The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in one or more of the following areas: precision nutrition, nutritional sciences, digital health, artificial intelligence applications in health, digital twinning, health professions education, implementation science, food systems, community-engaged research, health equity, behavioral interventions, or translational health research. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong analytical and communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and enthusiasm for working across disciplines to translate scientific discoveries into meaningful improvements in health and well-being.
The postdoctoral scholar will join a collaborative and rapidly growing interdisciplinary team and contribute to projects related to Digital Twinning for Nutritional Flourishing and other emerging initiatives within the Nourish to Flourish Studio. Research activities may include development and evaluation of personalized nutrition approaches, application of digital health technologies, educational innovations for health professionals, community-based nutrition interventions, and studies examining the relationships among nutrition, food systems, and human flourishing. The scholar will have opportunities to participate in grant development, lead and co-author peer-reviewed publications, mentor students, engage with community partners, present research at national and international conferences, and help shape the future direction of this innovative program.

Verify your credential aligns with engineering support
TN visa approval for Precision Machinists hinges on demonstrating your role supports a licensed engineer or applied scientist. A letter of support from an engineer at the hiring company significantly strengthens your application at the border or consulate.
Target manufacturers experienced with visa sponsorship
Search Migrate Mate for employers with recent visa filings for machinist or technician roles. These employers already understand work authorization processes and are far less likely to withdraw an offer over TN paperwork. When you identify a match, confirm the employer is willing to provide the required support letter at the time of your port of entry application (for Canadian applicants) or consulate application (for Mexican applicants).
Request a detailed support letter before crossing
Your employer's support letter must specify the engineering function your machining work serves, your Canadian or Mexican credentials, and the intended duration of employment. Vague letters citing only your job title are the most common reason Canadian applicants get turned back at the border.
Use Migrate Mate to find TN-ready precision machinist openings
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for TN visa sponsorship eligibility. Search for Precision Machinist roles to connect with employers who have already confirmed they can support TN status, cutting out the back-and-forth over whether sponsorship is possible.
Prepare transcripts showing technical or applied science coursework
CBP officers sometimes request evidence that your training program had a theoretical science or engineering component. Community college transcripts, apprenticeship certificates, or a technician diploma with course descriptions help establish the 'technologist' classification rather than a general trade worker.
Understand that Mexican applicants must use consular processing
Unlike Canadians, Mexican citizens cannot self-petition at a land border and must attend a U.S. consulate interview. Schedule early and confirm your appointment city accepts TN petitions, since not all consulates in Mexico process TN status at the same pace.
Precision Machinist TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Precision Machinist qualify for a TN visa?
Yes, but under a specific category. Precision Machinists qualify under the USMCA 'Scientific Technician/Technologist' classification, not as a standalone occupation. Your role must directly support the work of an engineer or applied scientist at the sponsoring employer. A CBP officer will look for that connection in your employer's support letter, so generic job descriptions without an engineering link are frequently rejected.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for precision machinist roles?
TN is substantially faster and more practical for this occupation. H-1B visa requires a bachelor's degree in a directly related specialty field, which most machinist training programs don't satisfy, and it's subject to an annual lottery. TN has no lottery for Canadians, no cap on renewals, and Canadians can be approved at the border the same day. The trade-off is that TN status is nonimmigrant and doesn't lead directly to a green card.
What does the employer need to provide to sponsor a TN visa for this role?
Your employer must prepare a detailed support letter on company letterhead. It needs to state your job title, describe how your machining duties support engineering or scientific work, confirm your Canadian or Mexican citizenship, specify your anticipated start date and employment duration, and be signed by an authorized company representative. USCIS and CBP both treat this letter as the core of your TN application, so precision in the language matters.
How can I find precision machinist jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It lists precision machinist openings from employers who have confirmed TN visa eligibility, so you're not spending time on roles where the employer can't or won't support your status. Filtering by TN sponsorship from the start prevents wasted applications and delays caused by employers learning about TN requirements for the first time mid-process.
Can a Mexican citizen on TN status change machinist employers without losing status?
Yes, but a new TN petition is required for each employer change. Unlike H-1B portability rules, you can't simply carry your existing TN status to a new company. Your new employer must file a fresh TN petition with USCIS or, if you prefer, you can depart the U.S. and reapply at a consulate with your new employer's support letter. Working for the new employer before the new petition is approved is a status violation.
