TN Visa Rheumatologist Jobs
Rheumatologist roles qualify for TN visa sponsorship under USMCA, with no lottery and no annual cap for Canadian citizens. U.S. hospitals, academic medical centers, and rheumatology group practices routinely file TN petitions for physicians specializing in autoimmune and musculoskeletal conditions. Mexican citizens have a limited TN allocation, so early filing matters.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Rheumatologist
Verify your medical credentials meet TN requirements
TN classification for physicians requires a valid medical degree and an unrestricted state license or proof you've met all licensing requirements. Confirm your Canadian or Mexican medical credentials are recognized in the state where you'll practice before accepting any offer.
Target academic medical centers and large health systems
Academic hospitals and regional health systems employ in-house immigration counsel and process TN petitions regularly for specialist physicians. Rheumatology faces a national shortage, which means these employers are more practiced at sponsoring international candidates than smaller private practices.
Search for TN sponsorship jobs through Migrate Mate
Filter your job search to employers with recent visa filings in healthcare. Migrate Mate lets you search physician roles by visa type and specialty, so you're targeting practices experienced with work visa sponsorship, not educating them from scratch.
Prepare your support letter before negotiating the offer
TN approval at the border or consulate hinges on a detailed employer support letter naming your specialty, the specific duties, your qualifications, and the employment period. Get this drafted before you finalize your start date so filing delays don't push back your practice start.
Understand how Mexican TN allocation affects your timeline
Mexican nationals are subject to a cap of 5,500 TN visas annually. If you're applying later in the fiscal year, file immediately after receiving your offer to avoid allocation exhaustion, and consulate processing at Ciudad Juarez or Monterrey can add several weeks.
Confirm the employer will file renewal petitions before you sign
TN status is granted in three-year increments and requires employer-initiated renewal. Clarify during contract negotiations whether the practice has a process for renewal filings and who bears the filing cost, since gaps in status interrupt your ability to practice.

Find Rheumatologist JobsRheumatologist TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a rheumatologist qualify for TN visa status under USMCA?
Yes. Rheumatologists qualify under the physician category in the USMCA TN professional list, provided you hold a valid medical degree from a recognized institution, have an unrestricted license to practice in the destination state, or meet the state's licensing requirements. Both Canadian and Mexican citizens are eligible, though Mexicans are subject to an annual cap of 5,500 TN visas across all categories.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for rheumatologist roles?
TN is generally faster and more predictable for rheumatologists than H-1B. There's no lottery, no cap for Canadian citizens, and no multi-month USCIS processing queue if you're a Canadian crossing at a port of entry. H-1B requires lottery selection each April for cap-subject positions, meaning a 75 percent or higher chance of no selection in any given year. For physicians already licensed and credentialed, TN removes that uncertainty entirely.
What documents does my employer need to file a TN petition for me?
Your employer needs to prepare a support letter on company letterhead detailing your job title, a description of your duties as a rheumatologist, the offered period of employment, and your qualifications. You'll need to supply your medical degree, proof of licensure or licensing eligibility in the destination state, and your Canadian or Mexican passport. Canadians can present these documents directly at a U.S. port of entry without a prior visa application.
Where can I find rheumatologist jobs that already offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search physician and specialist roles filtered by TN visa sponsorship, so you're connecting with employers who have already committed to sponsoring international candidates. That avoids the common scenario where you spend weeks in interviews only to learn the practice has never handled TN filings and isn't willing to start.
Can I switch rheumatology employers while on TN status?
Yes, but your TN status is tied to your current employer. Before you can begin work with a new practice, your new employer must file a fresh TN petition and receive approval, or you must obtain a new TN designation at a port of entry or consulate. Working for the new employer before that approval is granted puts you out of status, so coordinate your transition date carefully with both practices.
