Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Superintendent
Verify your credential matches the TN category
TN status for Superintendent roles typically files under Engineer or Architect. Your degree must match that category exactly. A construction management degree may not qualify without supplementary documentation showing engineering scope.
Target general contractors with federal project portfolios
Federal construction projects require E-Verify enrollment, which signals an employer already understands TN compliance. Contractors with government contracts are more likely to process sponsorship without extensive internal legal education on your part.
Request a support letter that names your TN category
Ask your employer to specify the TN professional category in the offer letter, not just your job title. CBP officers adjudicate on the spot for Canadians, and a letter that names 'Engineer' or 'Architect' removes the most common point of confusion.
Use Migrate Mate to find visa-sponsoring employers
Searching broadly wastes time on employers unfamiliar with USMCA categories. Migrate Mate filters Superintendent openings by employers with recent visa filings, demonstrating experience with work visa sponsorship, which significantly cuts the time from application to offer.
Prepare for Mexican TN consular processing timelines
Mexican citizens apply at a U.S. consulate, not at the border, and face a limited annual TN allocation. Build at least eight to twelve weeks into your start date negotiation to account for appointment availability and processing time.
Document project scope to satisfy specialty occupation standard
USCIS and CBP both require that the role demands at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Bring project drawings, org charts, or a written scope of work that shows the Superintendent position requires licensed engineering or architectural judgment.

Find Superintendent JobsSuperintendent TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Superintendent role actually qualify for TN visa status?
It depends on how the role is structured and filed. A Superintendent position qualifies under TN when it's classified under the Engineer or Architect category, meaning the job must require a bachelor's degree in engineering or architecture. Titles alone don't determine eligibility. If your employer frames the role around construction management without referencing an engineering or architectural discipline, CBP or USCIS may push back. Your offer letter and job duties need to clearly establish that the position requires that level of professional training.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Superintendent positions?
TN has no lottery, no annual cap for Canadians, and no multi-year wait. H-1B requires a registration lottery in March, and selection rates have been well under 30 percent in recent years. For Superintendent roles that qualify under Engineer or Architect, TN is a faster, more predictable path. The main limitation is that TN is nonimmigrant by design, so it doesn't lead directly to permanent residency the way an H-1B can under concurrent green card filing.
What documents does your employer need to prepare for TN sponsorship?
Your employer needs to provide a support letter that specifies the TN professional category, your job duties, the duration of employment, and your annual compensation. For Canadians, this letter is presented at the port of entry by you directly. For Mexicans, the consulate review requires the same letter plus your credential documents. The employer doesn't file a petition with USCIS for Canadian TN applicants, which makes the process faster but puts more preparation responsibility on you to arrive with complete documentation.
Where can Canadian and Mexican Superintendent candidates find employers willing to sponsor TN visas?
Most standard job searches don't filter by visa sponsorship willingness, which means a lot of time spent on dead ends. Migrate Mate is built specifically for USMCA professionals and surfaces Superintendent openings from employers with recent visa filings and experience sponsoring work visas. That filtering makes a meaningful difference when you're coordinating a cross-border job search with a firm start date in mind.
Can a Superintendent on TN status change employers mid-project?
Yes, but TN status is employer-specific. You can't begin working for a new employer under your existing TN approval. A Canadian citizen can obtain a new TN at the border the same day with a new offer letter. A Mexican citizen needs to apply at a U.S. consulate for a new visa. Plan accordingly if you're finishing one project and moving to the next contractor, especially in construction where project-based employment is common.
