Tower Technician Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tower technician in New York?
New York does not require a state-issued license specific to tower climbing, but most employers require candidates to hold a recognized safety credential before their first site assignment. The NWSA TTT-1 certification is the industry standard, and many contractors in New York will sponsor new hires through the exam. A high school diploma or GED is the typical education baseline, and completing an OSHA construction safety course before applying strengthens any application considerably.
How much do tower technicians make in New York?
Tower technicians in New York earn a median of about $81,070 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $48,570 for the lowest 10% to over $114,560 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tower technicians in New York?
Employers hiring tower technicians in New York right now include New York Power Authority, Plug Power, and Sunbelt Rentals, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's dense urban core and its large upstate wireless buildout keep a consistent pool of tower contractors and carriers actively recruiting throughout the year.
Which New York cities have the most tower technician jobs?
New York, Corfu, and Albany are the New York cities with the most tower technician openings. New York City drives volume through 5G densification and broadcast infrastructure tied to its media industry, while Buffalo and Albany see steady activity from regional carriers and utility contractors expanding rural and suburban coverage across western and central New York.
Are there remote tower technician jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. About 23% of tower technician openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting that the core work requires physical presence on structure. The small share of remote roles typically involves project coordination, RF planning, or site acquisition work rather than hands-on climbing assignments.
How can I get hired as a tower technician in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is joining a tower subcontractor as a ground crew member or apprentice climber, where on-the-job training is built into the role. New York-based contractors working on carrier infrastructure for networks like Verizon and T-Mobile frequently hire entry-level candidates who hold an OSHA 10 card and are willing to earn their NWSA TTT-1 during the first months of employment. Backgrounds in electrical work, construction, or military service are common lateral moves that get applications noticed.
Where can I find and apply to tower technician jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to tower technician jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Find roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly to the employer through the listing.
