Senior Level Underwriting Manager Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a senior level underwriting manager job?
Employers at this level look for candidates who have led underwriting teams, owned loss-ratio outcomes, and shaped risk appetite or pricing guidelines rather than simply applied them. A strong portfolio of complex accounts, demonstrated experience managing or developing junior underwriters, and fluency in regulatory compliance all sharpen your candidacy. Leadership presence and the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders are what separate finalists at this stage.
Which companies hire senior level underwriting managers?
Companies hiring senior level underwriting managers right now include Crum & Forster, AIG, and GEICO, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Hiring at this level comes primarily from regional and national carriers, specialty insurers, and large financial institutions that need seasoned leaders to oversee underwriting units and maintain portfolio profitability.
Are there remote senior level underwriting manager jobs?
Yes, remote and hybrid arrangements are common at this level. About 47% of senior level underwriting manager openings are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the industry's growing comfort with distributed leadership for roles that rely on data systems and documented workflows rather than daily in-office presence.
What makes a underwriting manager role senior level?
A senior level underwriting manager role is defined by scope and ownership rather than task execution. Responsibilities typically include setting underwriting guidelines, managing a team of underwriters, owning book-of-business results, and contributing to product or pricing strategy. Mentoring junior staff, partnering with actuarial and claims leadership, and driving process improvements are also core expectations that distinguish these roles from mid-level positions.
Which industries hire the most senior level underwriting managers?
Senior Level underwriting manager roles concentrate in Insurance, Banking & Financial Services, and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. These sectors drive demand because they maintain large, complex risk portfolios that require experienced underwriting leadership to sustain profitability and manage regulatory requirements at scale.
