ABOUT THE JOB
Topcon Healthcare is looking to offer an internship program from June 1, 2026, until August 14, 2026. This is a paid program located in the La Jolla CA Office. The core hours for this program are Monday – Thursday. Come join the Topcon Healthcare team to help build real-world skills and knowledge to influence your education and career path.
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Clinical Science team as a Data Science Intern. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in various aspects of Clinical Data Science while working closely with our experienced healthcare professionals. We are committed to providing real work opportunities for intern candidates through hands-on experience and a variety of projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work directly with raw source clinical data generated internally
- Perform data cleaning, validation, normalization, and structured transformation
- Debug, optimize, and expand an existing Python-based data dashboard
- Contribute to documentation and system reproducibility standards
- Maintain and troubleshoot Python workflows running on a virtual machine
- Data entry
- Data transfer
- Participating in ad-hoc projects and tasks as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Data Science, Clinical Science, Clinical Informatics, or a related field.
- Python (strong working knowledge required)
- SQL (strong working knowledge required)
- Familiarity with Windows Virtual Machines and Data dashboards (Shiny, etc.)
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
