Which companies in Texas sponsor visas for data science interns?
Large Texas-based employers with established international hiring programs include Dell Technologies, AT&T, Texas Instruments, ExxonMobil, and Amazon Web Services (which has significant Austin operations). These companies have HR infrastructure to support visa sponsorship for interns. Smaller startups in Austin's tech scene also sponsor, though their processes vary and are less predictable. Checking a company's history of H-1B or OPT filings can indicate sponsorship likelihood.
Which visa types are most common for data science intern roles in Texas?
Most international data science interns in Texas work under F-1 OPT or CPT, which allows current students to work without employer-sponsored visa petitions during their studies or post-graduation period. Some employers later sponsor H-1B visas for interns who convert to full-time roles. J-1 internship visas are also used, typically through authorized exchange program sponsors. OPT and CPT remain the most practical authorization for active students.
Which cities in Texas have the most data science intern sponsorship jobs?
Austin leads Texas for data science intern sponsorship, driven by its dense concentration of tech companies and startups. Dallas-Fort Worth is close behind, with strong demand from financial services firms, telecommunications companies like AT&T, and large corporate headquarters. Houston offers opportunities in energy-sector data science roles at companies like ExxonMobil and Chevron Phillips Chemical. San Antonio has a smaller but growing cybersecurity and cloud computing presence.
How to find data science intern visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate lists data science intern positions in Texas filtered specifically for roles open to visa sponsorship, saving you from manually screening hundreds of postings. You can filter by city, employer type, and visa category to narrow results to Austin, Dallas, or Houston. Because Texas has a large intern market, filtering for sponsorship-friendly employers on Migrate Mate is the most efficient way to focus your applications.
Are there university pipelines or state-specific factors that affect data science intern sponsorship in Texas?
Texas has strong university pipelines feeding local internships: UT Austin, Texas A&M, Rice University, and UT Dallas all produce high volumes of data science students, including international students on F-1 visas. Employers in Texas are familiar with CPT and OPT authorization because of these pipelines. The state has no income tax, which shapes compensation structures, and its energy and semiconductor industries create data science intern demand beyond traditional tech sectors.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored data science intern jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
