Which companies sponsor visas for dental assistants in California?
Large dental service organizations are the most active sponsors in California. Pacific Dental Services, headquartered in Irvine, operates over 900 locations nationally with a strong California presence. Aspen Dental, Western Dental, and Bright Now! Dental also have significant California footprints. Multi-location group practices are generally more likely to sponsor than small independent offices, which typically lack dedicated HR and immigration resources.
Which visa types are most common for dental assistant roles in California?
H-1B sponsorship for dental assistants is uncommon because the role does not consistently qualify as a specialty occupation requiring a specific bachelor's degree. Employers more often sponsor international candidates already holding work authorization, such as an EAD through a spousal visa or OPT. Some positions may qualify under the TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals if the role meets specific professional criteria.
Which cities in California have the most dental assistant sponsorship jobs?
Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Jose consistently show the highest concentration of dental assistant openings in California, reflecting population density and the number of group practice locations in those metros. The Inland Empire and Sacramento corridors are also active hiring markets. Bay Area practices in San Francisco and Oakland tend to offer competitive compensation given the higher cost of living, attracting more employer investment in recruiting.
How to find dental assistant visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate filters dental assistant jobs in California specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you're not sorting through listings that won't support work authorization. Search for dental assistant roles on Migrate Mate and filter to California to see active openings from group practices and DSOs actively hiring sponsored candidates. This saves significant time compared to manually screening general job listings.
Are there state-specific requirements for dental assistants seeking sponsored jobs in California?
California requires dental assistants performing certain expanded functions to hold an Registered Dental Assistant or Registered Dental Assistant in Extended Functions license issued by the Dental Board of California. Employers sponsoring international candidates will expect proof of eligibility to obtain the required state credential. Candidates with foreign dental training should verify their qualifications meet California's licensure pathway before pursuing sponsorship, as credential recognition varies.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored dental assistant jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
