Which companies sponsor visas for electricians in California?
Large electrical contractors are the most consistent sponsors in California. Rosendin Electric, Cupertino Electric, and Bergelectric have filed H-2B visa and H-1B visa petitions for skilled electrical workers. Utility companies like Pacific Gas and Electric also hire electricians, though sponsorship varies by role classification. Sponsorship is more common for specialized industrial and commercial electricians than for general residential work.
Which visa types are most common for electrician roles in California?
The H-2B temporary nonagricultural worker visa is the most commonly used category for journey-level electricians, as it covers skilled trades. The H-1B applies only when the role is classified as a specialty occupation requiring a specific bachelor's degree, which most electrician positions do not meet. Some candidates with advanced credentials pursue the O-1 visa or EB-3 immigrant visa pathway through employer sponsorship.
Which cities in California have the most electrician sponsorship jobs?
San Jose and the broader Bay Area lead in electrician sponsorship, fueled by data center construction and commercial development tied to the tech industry. Los Angeles follows closely, with large infrastructure and entertainment facility projects requiring licensed electricians. San Diego sees steady demand from defense contractors and hospital construction. Sacramento is growing as state-funded infrastructure projects expand.
How to find electrician visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles offering visa sponsorship, so you can search electrician positions in California without sorting through employers who do not sponsor. Focus your search on commercial and industrial roles, as those are more likely to include sponsorship than residential positions. Migrate Mate lets you narrow by location, making it straightforward to target Bay Area, Los Angeles, or San Diego contractors directly.
Are there any California-specific requirements electricians should know before pursuing sponsorship?
California requires electricians to hold a state-issued license through the Department of Industrial Relations. Most sponsoring employers expect candidates to hold a California Electrician Certification or be eligible to obtain one. The state also enforces prevailing wage rules on public works projects, meaning sponsored workers on qualifying job sites must be paid the applicable prevailing wage rate, which employers must reflect in their Labor Condition Applications.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored electrician jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
