A Brief Overview
The Labor Relations Consultant provides guidance and subject matter expertise on labor relations matters at Stanford Health Care. Reporting to the Director of Employee and Labor Relations, this role serves as a key advisor to management on the administration of collective bargaining agreements, labor laws, and complex employee relations issues. The Consultant represents the organization in grievance proceedings, effects bargaining, and labor-management matters while ensuring compliance with labor contracts, employment laws, and regulatory requirements in the healthcare environment.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Provides expert consultation to managers, HR partners, and senior leadership on complex labor relations matters including interpretation and enforcement of collective bargaining agreements, labor laws, and performance management issues.
- Administers the grievance process by investigating complaints, collecting evidence, preparing documentation, conducting hearings, representing the hospital in settlement discussions, and supporting arbitration proceedings with appropriate risk analysis and recommendations.
- Serves as the primary representative for day-to-day matters involving union employees, stewards, and union officials, attending joint labor-management meetings and responding to union requests for information while maintaining effective working relationships.
- Leads bargaining and side letter negotiations when needed, assists with contract bargaining preparation, and supports departments through NLRB petitions and elections.
- Investigates and responds to complaints filed with state and federal agencies such as the EEOC and NLRB, preparing witnesses and evidence for hearings and working collaboratively with legal counsel.
- Conducts analysis of regulatory changes and their impacts, reviews policy changes for compliance with collective bargaining agreements and labor laws, and develops solutions for complex HR issues.
- Develops and delivers training on labor relations topics and processes, while providing guidance on implementation of new laws and regulations affecting represented employees.
EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Human Resources, Labor Relations, or Business.
EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
- 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in labor relations, employee relations, or related field required.
- Experience working with collective bargaining agreements, grievance administration, and labor law compliance required.
- Prior experience as 1st chair in negotiations and arbitrations preferred.
- Experience in a healthcare setting and with multiple bargaining units preferred.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Thorough knowledge of state and federal labor/employment laws (NLRA, ADA, Wage & Hour, FMLA/CFRA, Workers Compensation, etc.) and unemployment insurance requirements.
- Strong understanding of principles and practices of employee and labor relations, collective bargaining processes, and contract administration.
- Excellent analytical skills with ability to research complex issues and develop appropriate strategies with corresponding risk analyses.
- Superior interpersonal and communication skills with ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain objectivity in investigations and confidentiality with sensitive information.
- Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills with ability to achieve solutions that balance organizational needs with contractual obligations.
- Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, work independently, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of healthcare industry regulations and hospital regulatory matters.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Professional certifications in labor relations or human resources (SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP, PHR/SPHR) preferred.

COMPENSATION
Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $66.52 - $88.14 per hour.
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
