Which companies sponsor visas for legal consultants in New York?
Large law firms with significant international practices, including Cleary Gottlieb, Davis Polk, and Latham and Watkins, have sponsored visas for legal consultants in New York. Financial institutions such as JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs also hire legal consultants with sponsorship for roles in compliance and regulatory affairs. Consulting arms of the Big Four accounting firms are additional common sponsors.
Which visa types are most common for legal consultant roles in New York?
The H-1B is the most common visa for legal consultants in New York, as roles typically require at minimum a bachelor's degree in law or a related field, satisfying the specialty occupation standard. Candidates with extraordinary recognition in their legal field may qualify for the O-1A. Foreign nationals from countries with treaty agreements may also explore E-3 or TN categories depending on their nationality.
Which cities in New York have the most legal consultant sponsorship jobs?
Manhattan accounts for the overwhelming majority of legal consultant sponsorship opportunities in New York, given its density of global law firms, investment banks, and corporate headquarters. White Plains and Albany also have meaningful demand, particularly for regulatory and government affairs consulting roles. Buffalo and Rochester occasionally post legal consultant positions tied to regional financial services and healthcare institutions.
How to find legal consultant visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to identify legal consultant roles in New York where employers are actively open to sponsoring international candidates. Rather than sorting through thousands of general postings, Migrate Mate surfaces positions relevant to your visa situation, saving significant time during what is often an urgent job search.
Are there state-specific considerations for legal consultants seeking sponsorship in New York?
New York requires foreign-trained attorneys practicing as legal consultants to register with the New York State Board of Law Examiners under its Licensed Legal Consultant rules, which adds a licensing step beyond federal visa requirements. Employers familiar with this process, typically large firms with established international hiring pipelines, are generally better positioned to support the combined licensing and sponsorship process efficiently.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored legal consultant jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
