Responsibilities:
Priorities can often change in a fast-paced environment like ours, so this role
includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:
- Directly contribute to the practical work of taking cinematic moments from storyboard to completion.
- Work closely with art and narrative direction team members and collaborate with design, engineering, surfacing, VFX, and lighting departments to help deliver game cinematics to a world-class standard.
- Use your experience in cinematic creation to guide our working practices from iterative prototyping to final best-in-class execution.
- Remain current on industry trends including advancement in commercial game engines and workflow efficiencies.

8+ years of experience in AAA game cinematics.
Confirmed experience, having shipped at least one major title in a relevant role.

Comprehensive understanding of camera work, framing, staging, and editing, including proficiency in industry-standard 3D workflows.
A portfolio with examples and detailed breakdowns showcasing your practical work.
Strong understanding of cinematography principles.
Key Attributes
- A team-oriented approach to your work, understanding the importance of collaboration and partnering with all departments.
- The ability to inspire others with an enthusiastic approach to game development and ongoing commitment to improving core skills.
- Self-motivated ability to solve problems proactively.
Extra Points
- Experience working through early development R&D phases of a project is a plus.
- Solid understanding of video game creation outside of cinematic art (e.g. lighting, VFX, characters, animation, audio).
- An interest in photography and cinema.
- Knowledge and experience in practical filmmaking.
- Expertise in 3D composition, form, balance, and color theory.
- Passion for playing a wide variety of video games.

Which companies in California sponsor visas for senior designers?
Large tech employers are the most consistent sponsors for senior designers in California. Companies including Apple, Google, Adobe, Salesforce, Meta, and Netflix have established immigration programs and regularly file H-1B visa petitions for design roles. Mid-size product companies and enterprise software firms in the Bay Area and Los Angeles also sponsor, though smaller studios and agencies do so far less frequently.
Which visa types are most common for senior designer roles in California?
The H-1B is the most common visa for senior designers in California, as UX, product design, and brand design roles at established tech companies typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring a relevant degree. Candidates with extraordinary recognition in their field may qualify for the O-1A. Australian citizens have access to the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and is widely used by designers at California tech companies.
Which cities in California have the most senior designer sponsorship jobs?
San Francisco and the broader Bay Area account for the largest share of senior designer sponsorship jobs in California, driven by the concentration of product-focused tech companies. Los Angeles is the second-largest market, with strong demand from entertainment, media, and consumer tech employers. San Jose and Cupertino are significant for hardware-focused design roles, particularly at Apple and its supply chain partners.
How to find senior designer visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse senior designer roles in California without sorting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. You can filter by state and role to surface relevant openings at California employers who have a documented history of sponsoring international design talent, saving significant time in the job search process.
Are there any California-specific considerations for senior designers seeking visa sponsorship?
California's strong design labor market means prevailing wage requirements for H-1B petitions reflect the state's higher compensation benchmarks, which employers must meet when sponsoring a senior designer. The density of design programs at California universities, including CalArts, UCLA, and Stanford, means employers are selective about seniority and portfolio depth. Senior-level titles with leadership or systems design scope tend to attract more sponsorship interest than mid-level generalist roles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored senior designer jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
